IMHO opening two crowdfunding campaigns for "Fistful of dollars" and "Duck, you sucker!" will successfully raise money in a week or two... if there is some interest in preserving those prints, of course...

About GBU: if needed, I could try to restore the scanned print to a good shape; don't know if I will be able to reach Mondo or MGM 4K quality, but hey, we are all fan restoration hobbysts here, aren't we?

Sadly my projects are lost due to an HDD crash… 😦 | [Fundamental Collection] thread | blog.spoRv.com | fan preservation forum: fanres.com

Anyone who wants to chip in for shipping, contact Lil Brutto, he has put up the total cost of the print itself, we will need a few hundred extra for shipping and once it arrives for scanning, for HDDs to store the scan on.

He will retain ownership of the print itself in this case, so PM him if you are interested in helping with shipping and to sort out the details so we don't clog up the thread with that stuff.

Thanks again to Andrea for negotiating on the ground in Italy.

Yes, fistfull is also an IB TECH, but I don't have any other details on it at the moment.

If anyone knows how to do that via crowdfunding and obtain the prints, I am happy to scan them for preservation.

I'm sure people would be interested in restoring the scans of the prints, just want everyone to understand that a Bluray taken from a negative will always have a lot more detail and dynamic range, less grain and more sharpness than a scan at any resolution taken from even the best print in the world.

Scans from prints look very good, but very different to a scan taken from a neg.

Well since The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is my favorite film, all I have to say is thanks guys. Thanks Andrea for negotiating, thanks Lil Brutto for buying the print (I know that set you back a pretty penny) and thanks poita for scanning. I'm truly excited for this. This is why I love this forum. The 4K didn't work out so people came together to come up with their own solution.

I had just searched for any recent news on him a day or 2 ago. Sad he's gone but he lived a long life.

RIP Eli Wallach. He was absolutely fantastic in this film.

Just letting you guys know that i'm in the middle of encoding the regraded version of this amazing film. It should be finished by tomorrow, I'll add TheHutt's great mono audio to the English DTS 5.1 audio from the blu-ray then get it up on tehparadox. I ended up going with exactly the same settings as the latest screencap comparisons I've posted here.

Here's another screencap comparison that I posted on blu-ray.com:

Great news kk! :) May I ask the size of the final encode? Will it fit on a bd-25?

That's the aim yes. I hope I've calculated the sizes correctly. I'll know when it finishes encoding and I add the DTS 5.1 audio and TheHutt's mono audio to the regraded video.

Can't wait to listen to the audio track you made, TheHutt.  Very neat of you to undertake that.  Is there hope of a theatrical project using the original mono track with the 4K elements?

Following up on poita's post above, anyone who's willing to contribute to this project should contact me via PM and let me know how much money you're able to chip in. I haven't received any PMs yet.

I believe this is a very important project and that's why I'm willing to shell out a majority of the cost but I need your help to make this happen.

Good news guys, its finished encoding and I just muxed all the tracks together. It was very close, I only had around 200mb of free space left, but it fits on a bd-25. :)

I should have this regraded release of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly with the DTS 5.1 audio from the blu-ray and TheHutt's mono audio up on tehparadox in around 6 hours.

kk650, has your version been regraded to the colours of the Mondo BD or is it just a blanket removal of the yellow tint?

Gonna grab it either way. Many thanks. :)

The PMs are slowly trickling in. The estimated shipping cost is $300. We also need to cover the cost of HDD storage. How much storage required depends on the format we use for the digital scan. poita, what do you suggest?
