They look staggeringly good! It's such a blast to see these films looking like film   again & not digitally scrubbed facsimiles of an old friend.

Thanks so much for all the work Team -1 are doing, and sharing with us all ;)

wow, so cool to see this... can't remember Empire looking so much like film since seeing it at the Cinerama Dome back in 1980.  The Dome still stands to this day, even though they built a brand new complex around it called Arclight Cinemas.  They didn't touch the Dome itself.  Waited in line for hours back then.  That's just the way it was.  But what a glorious experience.  I saw the film many more times during re-release in 1981.  Here's the trailer that ran back then...

Thanks for the compliment.

I think the audio is out of sync on some of them. My fault. They were ok in the original.

Anyways, in the second clip, did you notice Han knocking the stormtroopers helmet, and then him just walking away with it crooked. If you look at the one on the right, you will see that.

Here's how I look at this... since the raw film is such a visceral experience for those of us who actually remember seeing it this way first run, I think viewing the film exactly like this but with Hairy Hen's (purist) beefed up soundtrack would be absolutely amazing.  The one thing that was incredible back then in a specially equipped theater (like the Dome) was the sound.  I don't even care if you scrub up the negative but the sound has to be stellar.  Just my opinion.  It's retro visually but explosive audibly and that makes for a fantastic combination.  This is really great stuff any way you look at it.

Just for people who may not know, the Cinerama Dome has been around a long, long time...

Ah, I saw Back to the Future, Aliens, Django Unchained and Stoker in the dome when I was interning in LA. Good times

Continuing the detention cell scene, with Leia and Han, and their meeting with Lando:

Thanks for the compliments.

But we haven't done any real work on these. These are from the first scan, and have color correction.

We will be posting some comparisons of the original versions from each of the prints, and compare to the newer ones.

Every time I see a picture of the carbonite freezing room, the world gets a little bit brighter.

I'm here to kick ass and watch Star Wars, and I'm all out of ass.

God I love the how the color scheme looks in these clips.

That’s impossible, even for a computer.

Wow! That looks fantastic - so refreshing to see the scene of Luke in his X-wing flying to cloud city without the horrible DNR smearing of the GOUT, or the almost CGI looking version from the digitally scrubbed blurays. I love how it all looks so natural, and yet has a very 'punchy' feel to it too. Lovely & crisp! Nice to see the carbon freezing chambers lighting looking that shade of orange again too - they really cocked that up on the bluray. Are you going to pretty much keep these colour settings? Really does look just about spot-on to me.

Thanks for the kind compliments. This is just a first pass.

Actually, we are getting another print. That has been preserved almost as new.

This newer version might be the final reference that we need for color grading.

Hopefully, we'll have some screenshots coming up.

Well it looks great - look forward to seeing how the other print will look.

Another thing that struck me was how nice it was to see Luke's X-wing without the awful (and very cheap looking) digitally blurred out matt-lines. Even with the slightly visible matt-lines against the clouds, the ship just looks that much more 'THERE' than the fudged with version. No blurred out grain, and consequently no blurred out detail either. The image just 'pops' more. Going to quickly put this clip onto a memory stick and see what it looks like on the projector over the weekend ;)

Again, thanks for all the compliments. Keep in mind this is a very early preview version, without any adjustments except color, and a little cropping.

We just had to post the classic, "I love you", "I know" scene:

The carbon freezing room, even with the slight fade of this print, looks amazing.  Those are the best-looking screens I've seen from ESB so far.  It looks like film again!
