Oh, man.  I thought the other one was pretty good, but this thing looks out of control.  Destroy All Monsters finally in HD with a proper master.  Thanks for the heads up!

I love the original japanese films and i thought Devlin and Emerich did a good job with their 1998 remake. I never understood what the hell people had against it--HELLO, its Godzilla! Compared to the other films in the series it had the smartest plot, deepest-developed characters and the most thrilling action. I'm convinced that every critic of this film has never seen an actual Godzilla film.

This post is full of what.

The Emmerich Godzilla or GINO(Godzilla In Name Only) is a decent monster movie. But it is not in any way a Godzilla film.

Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich used a Japanese kaiju to create an homage to the American monster movie. It's basically a bland remake of The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms.

I love that film, it's a classic that yes inspired Tomoyuki Tanaka to create Godzilla in the first place.

BUT, Godzilla and the films that followed are a genre onto their own. To make a generic monster movie and then slap Godzilla's name on it is an enormous disservice to the character. His ultimate fate was well deserved.

Me and BoxMonster are working on a version 2.0 of the Kong restoration that will have the alternate mono sound mix and actual subtitles (not the shitty VDK ones).

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

 I would certainly welcome this.

It might be a re-encode of the out of print Blu-ray. It looks absolutely fantastic. Whoever re-encoded it fixed the black level and color. Highly recommended.

It carries the audio over from the old bluray but this is new video .... I have found nothing linking this video to the older transfer at all.

I am snagging 3 25GB Godzilla movies that have German/Japan audio .... Tokyo SOS, Giant All Out Monsters Attack, and 2000.

My question is this ..... does anyone have or is there English audio for 2000 because I believe the International version is extended?

The Blu-rays barely released by Sony have dubtitles. Anyone know of a website where I could download 1080p Japanese to English accurate subtitles? For use with ArcSoft Total Media Theatre 6.

Ask Mike Schlesinger, the U.S. Godzilla 2000 producer. Word has it he has a VHS tape of the unreleased HK export dub in his office or something. But in all seriousness, I hope it's included on the U.S. Blu-Ray since they'll probably end up including the Japanese cut.

I have that same Blu-ray and have been looking for an English track as this is the longer version. I have only been able to find English audio for the shorter version. I think the best we are going to be able to do is get an English sub track to go with the Japanese audio. That is what I am going to do with my copy.

EPIX is doing a Godzilla Marathon today, anyone capping?

Author
Time

They're showing it in SD on Epix Drive-In on Time Warner.  It's the only Epix channel not in HD for us sadly.  Wish it were HD but it's still Awesome.  They're showing mostly the best stuff from the early years so far.  Encore tends to show the later entries from the '90s.

They didn't show Monster Zero in the correct aspect ratio and that kinda sucks.  If these were perfect presentations, I could see the importance of capturing them.  So far, the restorations on the spleen have been better.

Well that stinks about Monster Zero.  Maybe we'll get more restorations that fix such issues.

Whoa, did they use the MHD airing for Monster Zero? If anyone got a cap of that, lemme know.

Space, they did not show the film in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio.  During the opening credits it was 4:3 and the rest of the film was 1.85 (standard definition).  I do not believe that EPIX presents Godzilla movies in HD.  The sound was strong and it was the English dub from the late '70s and early '80s they used for television broadcasts when I was a kid.  Here's how it looked...

Ah, so it's just the Classic Media reconstruction which the MHD telecine was a basis for.

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

Space, is this DVD the best one out there for Monster Zero?

It's only $4 bucks anyway!

there have only been 3 official releases of this title, AFAIK. yes, the one you link is the overall the best.

edit: the Japanese hd broadcast of the Japanese version has the best image quality of any release. Kubota on my spleen plans on using this source material to reconstruct the US edit.

1.classic media master collection (above). This one contains both the US and Japanese cuts.  The commentary tracks are worth the price alone.  The image quality is good, but nowhere near the quality of OOP Sony titles like Gigan.  According to most sources, this release is as good as it can be considering the source material they had to work with.

2. The Simitar release.  Proper aspect ratio throughout the film, but presented in low res non anamorphic.  side b is 4x3. quality is mediocre

3. part of classic media's Boxed set "godzilla collection".  I believe this version is presented only in 4x3.
