Still, we must face the fact that, just like the movies, we may never get a complete official version (other than what the all-power-god-of-the-universe adywan creates.)

I love to make models, In my years, I've made tons of different models. With a little work on painting, replacing a few parts, the AT-AT model can be made to look like it came straight from TESB.

So when will ESB Revisited be released?

I know it's done when it's done and the sooner the better and all that type of stuff....

But If it came out in December over the festive season I could imagine that being real magic.

I always associated the original trilogy as not only great films that I would watch on vhs ..again and again (I had a betamax first though) as a kid, but they were always on the television at christmas and there was always something special about them being on television as opposed to having to stick a video cassette in.

Empire strikes back and gremlins I think are probably 2 of the best films you could watch over the festive period... Just saying and If you had not seen this particular iteration of ESB before well it goes without saying....

Even if it's done by September they should probably wait to release for Christmas for that magic feel... I don't really like Christmas as a time that much but the film you watch on Christmas day after dinner is always a good point of it. Then again I got quite a small family.

Even if it's out before then I think I may be reserving a 2nd viewing of this on Christmas day this year

Well the video side of things is almost complete. i've got about 20 shots left to do (hell of a lot of rotoscoping work to do though on these shots). Still working on the miniatures etc. I'll start filming these once all the video work is done so i know the exact angles and what i need to composite to look like, but once they are filmed it won't take long to complete each composite. Then it's on to the audio work.

I'll release the 720p mkv (or AVCHD) first followed by the DVD's and the Blu-Ray a few months after due to al the work to be done for the menus, extras etc.  It will be towards the last quarter of this year but maybe sooner if things go according to plan.

I'll then be taking about a year off while i finalise all the plans for the rest of the saga, before starting any video work on the remaining movies.

Yeah, drug addicts can take a year off anytime they want as well. :p

Congrats on all the progress, Ady! And I can't wait to see the results of all your model work. The home stretch is on the horizon!

20 Shots and counting.. Must be a fairly good feeling but sounds like you left some hardest work for the last stretch

The miniatures work for this project really interests me... But I don't want to see any video of it until the film is released but I would like some teaser stills when the work is done...

Can't say I blame you for wanting to take a break from all the hard work... Take a big deep breath and then plunge yourself in even deeper...

Even just planning everything on the year off will be a huge task in itself for what you have already announced.

@Adywan

Any chance that you put a "Making-Of" on the DVD/BD ?

It would really be interesting to see and hear how you did some of the great work ;-)

Ady, are you keeping the source files for VFX, color editing, etc. ? I'm asking because with UHD coming around in a few years, it might not be bad to have the option to render (or upscale) this to 1080p.

Don't get me wrong, I live in a country that's still watching broadcasts mostly on a 4:3 format and only this year digital signal is becoming nation-wide standard... but...

Looking forward into the future, TESB:R will be my personal definitive version of the movie and it would be nice to be a bit future-proof.

Great to hear you're nearing the end of it! Looking forward to the release!

Any specific plans for the audio editing ? It may not be as glamorous as the video but I'm very interested to hear what the  new adui mix will be like.

UHD is impratical for home video. Besides, the modern SE/prequels were CREATED in 1080p, they would have to start from scratch to have new source files for a UHD of Revisited to even be considered. Besides, the file sizes would make traditional sharing options useless.

I actually hope that Ady renders the finished audio/video in a lossless format, and sets it aside on a dedicated hard drive. That way, all he'll have to do is pull it back out and re-encode it depending on the specs for the latest home media format. Revisited will be in its final form when released at 720p, so the only way to see improvement at that point will be increasing bitrate and better compression techniques.

Had that been the case for ANH:R, we might all currently have access to an AVC High-Bitrate bluray copy. Resolution might still be at 480p (or 576p), but I'm willing to guess it would have improved upon the already beautiful and amazing DVD-9, complete with a 640kbps Dolby track, or perhaps even DTS. ;)

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000

i'm not going to be keeping all the files. It's pointless worrying about future formats. 720p is going to be the highest quality these edits will ever be in. Its going to be a very long way down the road before anyone buys into anything better than Blu-ray / 1080p. I saw a demo of the 4k Tv sets and to be honest, unless your Tv is going to be larger than 60inches, it just isn't worth the money. There isn't that much difference between the lossless original and the rendered BD-25 blu-ray encode. And, as 005 said, the blu-ray transfers aren't all that great anyway and the prequels are stuck at max 1080p, so what ould be the point?

I will not be gong back to this movie once it is finished and out there. I want to move on and not have to worry about some new format coming out that might improve the quality somewhat. By the time i have finished all these movies then that's it. Nothing more from me. No more edits, ever. I need to get my life back ;)

You mean you're not going to get that job at Lucasfilm, working on official Star Wars movies? ;)

Meant no disrespect, Ady. :)

To be honest, I don't have either a 1080p monitor or TV, just HD Ready (720p) so that resolution suits me fine. I was just curios. At any rate, looking forward to TESB:R. :)

I remember thinking when ANH:R came out that ESB:R would not take very long... Because I thought the film really did not need too much changing with it apart from the color correction and a few edits and replacement matte paintings.

Only after it's totally scrutinized and you look at the change list on the first post you realize how much potential tweaks and improvements there are.

My mind can only Boggle at the size of the ROTJ:R change list it's probably twice as long as ESB:R already if there is a rough list

And the prequel Trilogy films that is an impossible calculation at the moment.

Anyway I just went on Jim Henson's creature workshop to have a look and surprisingly when you click on the films tab Star Wars does not get a mention?

I wonder if there is some sort of breech of contract that they are not allowed to claim rights to creative services being an outside company from lucasfilm?

you can see the film list here

http://www.creatureshop.com/productions_film.php

I just think it's a bit strange that they did not credit that film to the list... As who would not want to associate themselves with working on the original star wars trilogy? Which makes me think that they can not on legal grounds?

*Edit*

Just found this on Wiki

Despite assumptions to the contrary, Jim Henson's Creature Shop was not responsible for any of the non-human characters in the Star Wars series. The Star Wars creatures were created in-house by Stuart Freeborn in England and at Industrial Light & MagicGeorge Lucas' special effects shop. Jim Henson and his team, regardless were consultants for the Yoda puppets and Frank Oz, one of the original Muppeteers, performed him.[1] Henson and Lucas did collaborate on the 1980s cult classic Labyrinth.

I Actually never new that but I thought I would leave this up for others.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the new wampa. But here's an idea for the wampa scene. (I didn't come up with this.) What you should do is include the SE shot of the wampa howling in pain after its arm gets chopped of, but keep all the original mystery-wampa shots. This would create suspense and then people would be shocked when we see the full wampa for a couple of seconds. Also, I found a sample video of the new emperor. Why are you using the new Vader-Emperor dialogue instead of the original. You said that you want all film to be connected. That means when you start watch TESB, you shouldn't know that Vader is the father until ROTJ. The SE version kind of spoils it. My final idea is to keep the newer Emperor look, but use the original audio. This links that Palpatine in I-III is the emperor, and he'll look how he does in ROTJ. Please think about these. I've also left the scripts of the Vader-Emperor scene below. Bold shows what lines are the same.

Original

EMPEROR: You may rise, my servant.

VADER: What is thy bidding, My Master?

EMPEROR: There is a grave disturbance in the Force.

VADER: I have felt it.

EMPEROR: Our situation is most precarious. We have a new enemy who could bring about our destruction.

VADER: Our destruction? Who?

EMPEROR: The son of Skywalker. You must destroy him...or he will be our undoing.

VADER: He's not a Jedi, he's just a boy. Obi-wan could not have taught him so much that...

EMPEROR: You are weak! I have seen it. The Force is strong with him. He must be destroyed.

VADER: But, if he could be turned, he would be a powerful ally.

EMPEROR: Yes...yes. That would be a great asset.

VADER: He will join us or die, my master.

The Emperor is now saying the original lines, but its the "new" voice. I'm not sure what sample video you found, but that was done a few years ago.

As for the Wampa doing the hokey-pokey (he put his arm in, now he's shaking all about), I'm pretty sure Adywan agrees with me that is probably the worst shot of the SE scene and must go back to the cutting room floor from whence it came.

So you're saying that the shot will not appear or it will be refilmed along with the rest of the wampa shots?
