Idea: Virtual Lost Cut - Fan Edit

I brought this up years ago.  I don’t have the ability to do it myself.  But with the extra deleted scenes on the Bluray this could really work out.

I think it would be cool to make a virtual edition of the lost cut by using the deleted footage.  Removing some of the matte paintings from scenes using stills published in books over the years.  Creating a new into using the original crawl script for “The Star Wars”.  The end result would be a completely rough version with “scene missing” screens and little to no actual special effects.  Possibly even all B&W.

What are your thoughts?

I'd imagine the work on the soundtrack would be very extensive. You'd be removing all effects and John Williams music.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

This is the black and white version with Han making out with the girl in the cantina, right?

I wish that I could just wish my feelings away...but I can't.  Wishful wishing can only lead to wishes wished for in futile wishfulness, which is not what I wish to wish for.

Are all of the Star Wars deleted scenes on the bluray? Like the shots of our heroes whistling with their guns behind their backs to look innocent as they stroll past imperial officers? I don't think all of the "Lost Cut" material is available.. is it?

Nope.  So much is missing from the Bluray set.  And the quality of some of the scenes are awful.  But Lucas thinks we believe his bs that this is all there is and that the negatives all look that bad.

I would really, really like to see the whole thing.  Rumor says that it's over 3 hours.

There are some folks working on restoring/cleaning up the deleted footage.

I was reading about the Lost Cut today and I was thinking about my project.  I don't have the time or talent, but I believe the many pictures I will be including could be pieced together with the available deleted scenes to sort of recreate the Lost Cut.  Obviously it's not perfect, but it would be quite interesting in my mind.
