Hello again,

I love reading about the work that went into the v3 versions.  I also notice that the BD-25 versions are not yet uploaded, but some people are commenting as if they have downloaded/seen them?  Any ETA on when they'll be up?

In the meantime, I would love a PM with invite info to myspleen.  I would be happy to seed 24/7.

Thanks,

Sam

Invite sent, check your PM's.

OH, and NO ETA yet on the Blu's, there may be a possible hold up on The Empire Strikes Back, still waiting on things and not sure on what my intentions are going to be just yet.

Dude, DJ AND Sky are back?  Sky's buying an HDTV for the official BDs?  What kinda backwards Bizarro world did I wake up to tonight?

DJ - As always, it looks like you've done a bangin job.  Now, how does one acquire this offering of BDs? lol

sky - I thought you dropped off the face of the planet again.  Hit up my email, might have some goodies for you.

Anyone else needing spleen invites, PM me. I think I have 4 left.

It's good to be back on here again...

But you do have a point about the younger generation.  Most don't give a carp about ANY sort of history.

I don't give a carp about anything! I actually hate carp, it tastes like mud from the bottom of a lake (and I would know, since it's sadly a part of traditional Czech Christmas dinner).

But seriously, I'm also part of the "young" generation (I'm 23) and I do give a crap. I saw the SEs of ESB and ROTJ before I ever saw the originals but I gradually realized how much more interesting the OOT versions were and later even how crap some of the SE changes were.

SW wasn't very big in the Czech Republic before 97, so it was quite a quest to even find the originals on VHS, so I've been on a look out for a better quality version of the OOT for ages.

I'm 25 and I will literally never watch the original trilogy in a (seriously) altered form again, if I can help it (I'm very conflicted about the 3D re-release to theaters). If Lucas wasn't so bullheaded about his "vision" and gave us a decent version of the UOT, I would buy the BluRay set in an instant. Sadly, he will not be getting any of my money for this mockery of the older SW movies.

Well when I started mentioning the younger generation, I wasn't exactly thinking mid-20s .. Not that you guys are "old" or anything :D

I was more thinking the mid to late teens of today. The ones who are growing up with Optimus in 3D and Captain Jack and Potter mania. This is what constitutes as the best of the best of today. This is the yardstick by which other movies are measured - in their eyes because its all they know - or rather, it's all they have.

Star Trek does not mean "The good of the many outweigh the good of the few, or the one" to this generation. We're talking more than 20 odd years of generation gap here. It's like what I mentioned, what if a good movie that will be remembered and revered by people with significant disposable income in their late 20s 10+ years from 2011 must have loud explosions for example? Seriously, just look at Star Trek...

I can imagine if GL decided to remake ANH, and not just tweak it, we'd have a make out scene between Luke and Leia or Han and Leia (and not just a "hint" of under-current), racing towards the exhaust port would have been much more action packed, Vader and Obi-Wan's fight would have been flying all over the place (think Yoda vs <anyone> in the prequels)... I can't imagine Megan saying "You came in here without a plan for getting out? some rescue.." to the same effect.. Hot and action-movie-worthy Megan may be, but she can't pull off such a dialogue I believe.. Still, if SW was remade, and they cast Megan + Hugh Jackman as Han and Zac Efron as Luke, it would be like printing money..

As a teen of today, I am part of this younger generation and do definitely not consider any of the Transformers or Pirates as the best. Star Wars is worthy of preservation to me and I definitely do think this is worthy to preserve. The Special Editions do indeed make these great movies worse...

I'm really not a fan of ADD camera syndrome, which every movie in the past 15 years seems to have - especially action movies! You can barely go 5 seconds without a new camera angle...

Bravo! We need more like you! SW needs more like you! :D

But you know, I fear that we are preaching to the choir, after all, this question, this sentiment is being discussed on a forum thread dedicated to the preservation of the original unaltered trilogy..

Box office numbers for Captain Jack do not lie unfortunately..

If Nolan remade ANH, I wonder, would Luke have a "darker" side? snigger.. :D

I know, I know, if Nolan remade ESB, Vader would say, "Luke I am your ... " then long pregnant pause, focus on glowing lightsaber, and movie ends... ha ha ha ha! :D

I had a chance to download and watch ANH and TESB.

Both were very good, the best I've seen as far as "untampered with" goes.  For ANH, I could still see some aliasing.  It is of course more noticeable in the early scenes, especially on C3PO and R2.  The land speeder side grills also make this anomaly more obvious.  Is there any source that doesn't have the aliasing burned into the image?  I think correction efforts are still quite nice, and have reduced or eliminated 90% of it.  ANH also has a fair amount of edge enhancement or halos around dark objects.  Again, likely present on all non-altered sources.  I no longer have the original LDs to compare against.  It is also obvious where grain reduction occurs.  Sometimes it appears a bit too heavy, such as on Vader during the first 5 minutes.  In many other scenes it is used to good effect.  Grain not eliminated, and plenty of detail still intact.

ESB looks even better, grain looks nice.  Still some aliasing, but I based on the GOUT DVDs, it was never as bad as ANH ever was.  The colors on TESB are good, but at times it does seem too dark, especially during the Han Solo carbonite scene.

I definitely don't want to come across as too critical.  Far from it!  I feel very fortunate to get to experience these, and truly appreciate all the hard work that went into them.

Great job on the sound!  All the tracks I sampled were good. Absolutely no complaints there.  Looking forward to uncompressed versions if/when we get the BD versions of these editions.

My playback path is OPPO BDP-95 through Denon AVP-A1HDCI(A) processor.  My display is 60" Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD that is fully calibrated.

Jackman slaps on more hairgel onto his hair.

Solo: I know what I'm doing...

Cameo appearance by Samuel L. Jackson wearing an eyepatch walks out from under the dry-ice vapor surrounding nearby X-wings.

What is this? and what does it have to do with my projects here in this thread? I have said several times a little off topic in my thread is fine, but when it keeps going, then I start to have a problem, so if you guys want to keep talking about whatever this is you are talking about, please take it to a new thread, Thanks.

Thanks for the comments, but all that you mentioned is on the 06 DVD's and the LD's and even has some on the 1997 SE LD's, that is why I say over and over on the BD25 release that this Set is NOT for everyone, you will not be interested in it because the same flaws of the DVD do carry over, there is no miracle cure for these sources, it is what it is unfortunately, there is only so much filtering that can be done with this, which is to bad actually, of course I would like to make a perfect 1080P Blu-ray version of the Untouched Original Trilogy, but that is just not going to happen, not with what we have to work with, but I can live with my BD's until hopefully GL eventually restores and makes a proper release, hopefully.

Thanks again for the comments, you might want to check out Harmy's mostly de specialized versions, those might be more in what you are looking for.

I appreciate the tip about Harmy's versions.  However, I'm quite certain I can live with the anomalies in the source material in your versions.  I figure if I'm gonna watch something with even *a few* changes in order to get more pristine video, I might as well watch the upcoming official Blu-rays.  I'm kind of a all-or-nothing fellow.

If there's even a 10% improvement in PQ in your BDs, I'm still absolutely interested in them.  Please PM me!

Also, I should revise my "grain" comment in regards to ANH.  There's only a few instances where it looks like too much was removed.  And that may not be your doing.  I'd have to check my GOUT DVDs to compare.  The Vader "Where is the ambassador" scene in ANH, R2/C3PO in the escape pod and Vader's initial meeting and conversation with Leia, all seem to have a lack of grain or artifacts of DNR.  Most of the rest of the time, the grain has a good balance.

Since I'm new at this when it comes to DVD9 burning. I was wondering what would be the best brand name to get? Is Verbatim still high quality in terms dvdr media.

Just wanted to say that I finally got around to watching the DVDs for ANH and the first half of ESB. I honestly have never seen the OT look (and especially sound!) this good. (I grew up with hand-me-down pre-90s VHS tapes and pretty much wore them out over the years.)

I can't really offer much constructive criticism, not really having the eye for nitpicking artifacts and glitches while watching a movie. Basically, I don't see how these could look any better and I'm surprised they look as good as they do, remembering they came from ultra shitty laserdisk rips.

I really just wanted to thank dark_jedi and everyone else who works on projects like these.

Looking forward to finishing the trilogy tonight!

d_j, I watched ROTJ BLU last nite (I had checked it previously, but not watched the whole thing in one sitting), and it looks spectacular! Really great. Thanks again, so much!

BTW, you've mentioned that you were able to get more detail on the BLU discs than on the V3-- how did you manage this given the source material you had to work with?

Downloaded the V3 DVDs last night, and had a quick glance at different points in the movies. Very good for the most part, better than the personal upscale I did four years ago. Still some jaggies in places, but that's down to the source. Overall an excellent release, and the only Star Wars that will get played in my house. Will be watching them tonight on a 50" screen :)

Hi there, I'm new to the forum, but  I know this web from a long time ago, since the petitions for the OT in DVD (petition that of course I signed and I sent to all my friends who love SW in it's original form)

I wonder if there's a way through pm or something to get the links to these amazing blu-rays or/and DVD's I saw in the first post....

But most of all, I wanna thank to all the makers of these wonderfull SWOT projects. You are really making a lot of people happy guys!!

See you around!
