Any chance of compressing the unupscaled video using whichever codec you're planning to use for the upscaled version to maximize bitrate and including the lossless audi track with it as well? Just thought I'd give it a shot, my BD player has a Marvel Qdeo processor so for me it'd be better to let the hardware handle the upscaling.

No, that is not what my project is, just stick with the V3 then.

What if I put a dirtbike on the table, would that change your mind?

You could always get the Blu, demux the lossless audio tracks, and remux them with an MKV conversion of the V3 DVD video.

I say that because that's probably what I'll be doing for myself.

Yeah, but still, this dirtbike isn't going to ride itself.

Imagine if it could though.

Thanks dark_jedi, these look incredible!

Anyone have advice on layer-break placement when burning these to DVD?  I was planning to use Toast 10 if that's any help.

I play most of my video from my laptop through HDMI, so for me, the blu will definitely be better. I can't really take full advantage of LPCM audio, so I'll probably demux those and keep it as an mkv, but from what I saw, the picture quality looks great and I'm also curious about the menus and stuff, I'm sure they'll be great. Any idea how it will be shared yet? Using torrents is strictly forbidden by my school dorm internet provider (not because it's illegal but because it could provide access to the local network from outside) and is punished by an immediate ban :-(

Can't wait to see V3 and the Blu.  Thanks for all the hard work d_j!

Had to chime in with Harmy here.  Torrents are tough for some.  Would anyone be kind enough to post these to the newsgroup?

Hell, if this Blu Trilogy works out, we already have our first NON Star Wars project in mind, Sheena on BD!

Are you serious? Don't take this the wrong way, but why Sheena? :)

I used cell 28, but the layer jump on my player was still quite noticeable. That has more to do with my player though (DMP-BD80). I used ImgBurn.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

OK...so I've been lurking on this thread for several months now, waiting for the V3 DVD's to be ready for download. Can't stand the SE in any form, so back in '05 I bought a LaserDisc player and a set of the "faces" edition discs so I would have the best (or nearly the best) OT widescreen presentation available at the time. Had a friend borrow the player and discs for awhile so he could work up a mediocre DVD transfer for himself (and a copy for me, of course!) and I've also downloaded one of the TR-47 editions as well. Nobody seemed to be able to overcome the limitations of the LD's S-Video or Composite output, though, and I always thought the playback straight from my LaserDisc player was a better choice. I had high hopes for the X0 Project but we all know what's happened there, so I was excited when I heard about dark_jedi's V3.

Boy was it worth the wait. I watched a bit on from a mounted .iso on my PC at work and thought it was just OK but definitely better than anything I'd seen before. However, when I burned it to disc and watched a few minutes on my upscaling Sony DVD Home Theatre at home I was blown away by the picture quality. I've not had the chance to watch the whole thing yet because we moved into a new house this weekend, but I am looking forward to sitting down with this latest addition to the wonderful heritage of Star Wars fan preservations.  The Rebel Alliance of OT preservationists has A New Hope in the battle against Darth Lucas and the Evil Empire (and let's keep that hope off the title crawl).

I've been seeding the torrents from a VM on my work PC all weekend. So far I've uploaded over 100GB and I'll keep it up as long as it's needed.

Thanks again, dark_jedi for your dedication to the project despite the occasional slings and missile from various lurkers, and to everyone else who had a hand in bringing this incredible project to fruition!

I would also appreciate an invite. Thanks.

Old samples even look good dark_jedi for blu-rays. Can't even imagine what the newer ones now look like.

Any rough idea idea of when you expect the HD versions to be completed?

I'm more curious if anyone is making progress on a TehParadox or newsgroup release.

PM was sent.

Also, sure would like to know why there is an issue with people asking in my thread for an invite for THIS project? it is NO different than everyone asking for download link PM in other threads, but I see none of these damn warnings or please see here edits there, seems pretty silly to me, especially since it does not bother me at all that they are asking, so why does it you? it is still project related.

Still no idea at all, that is why I took it out of the thread description, the latest update I have has been the same for 3+ weeks, maybe longer, but ALL video and audio for all 3 movies has been rendered and encoded, in other words, ALL DONE, I am still waiting on the BD menu's, and I have NO idea how much longer those are going to take, I have not heard from him in a while now and have no clue.

I have been using google and trying to find some kind of tutorial on making at least some kind of simple BD menu and trying it out myself, but have been unsuccessful in finding any tutorials as of yet, if anyone knows of any please post, if I had more blank BD's I was about to just make a movie only BD just so I can at least see and hear what all this is going to look and sound like now, so there you have it, unless something changes, I will have no more updates, just sitting on everything.

MultiAVCHD is a great free program for authoring blus. Just import your MKVs or existing blu-ray folder, then it produces a main menu/setup menu/chapter menu for you. Not as flexible as a proper authoring tool but you can still tinker a great deal with the design - use your own text, backgrounds and stuff - and get some pretty respectable results (I used it to put a fancy front-end on Harmy's 720p Empire).

Tutorial here too.

Great work as always DJ! I watched the V3 Star Wars DVD with my kids tonight and it was great. With these and your blu-ray project when it's finished, I can honestly say that Lucas will not get another cent of my money until he releases properly restored versions of the GOUT on blu-ray (ala Blade Runner, The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, etc.).

I'm having a strange stuttering issue. Once the heroes sneak into the death star, every few seconds the film stutters. There was even a moment where it looked like a film reel break where two halves of a frame were on top of each other. Any idea what's causing this?
