Somewhere there's a transcript of Lucas' appearance at the 10th Anniversary Con

There's a poor vhs recording of this event.  a.b.sw SW10_GEORGE_TRIBUTE (573 days ago)  Don't remember the Boba question, if you've got that transcript text, i'll add it to the DVD in future postings.

I have a Starlog issue from 1987 or 1988 that has a (partial, probably) transcript of the event. Lucas says he is considering putting the Holiday Special on VHS when someone asks about it, so he clearly didn't hate it as much back then as he now insists.

Could be Starlog #123 October '87

In his From the Bridge column, publisher Kerry O’Quinn gives a behind-the-scenes peek at George Lucas’ appearance at the Starlog convention honoring Star Wars’ 10th anniversary

or

Starlog #127 Feb '88

Bill Warren writes up a question-and-answer session that George Lucas had with audience members and reporters at the Starlog convention celebrating Star Wars’ 10th anniversary (including the audience question: “Why didn’t you give Luke a girl?” and Lucas’ answer: “You haven’t seen the last three yet.” Still haven’t.);

That now insists Holiday Special quote (destroy all copies) is supposedly from an Australian Convention, it's another one of those quotes, who's origin ain't online or a definitely source verified to my liking...

Unrelated... But thanks for the link to the Starlog article. I had a whole pile of those mags in the early- mid-1990s.

Thanks for sharing this, Ripplin! I've tried scanning my old Starlogs, but can't get them perfectly flat and legible on a scanner without risking damage to the spines.

If you find the 1987 Sebastian Shaw interview, or the Richard Marquand one I think they did sometime after Jedi, those would be invaluable around here. :)

First though, file this in the Rumor Mill category, but multiple early leaks we're receiving from retail sources today would seem to indicate that Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox will be releasing all 6 Star Wars films on Blu-ray in October (street dates of 10/18 or 10/25 are being reported), as a Star Wars: The Complete Saga - 35th Anniversary Collection (2012 being the 35th anniversary of the theatrical release of the original film). We're told by studio sources that we WILL get an official Blu-ray announcement from Fox and Lucasfilm tomorrow morning, when Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers invade Panasonic's booth at CES 2011, so be sure to check back here at The Bits around 11:30 AM for all the details. Rest assured we'll have all the official information here as soon as it's available. [Editor's Note: I suspect we'll get a first look at box art, details on the street date, SRP and SOME content information, and possibly a little talk of the eventual 3D theatrical re-release of the films in 2012, given Panasonic's involvement. This is speculation, but it wouldn't surprise me if the BD set has some kind of short BD3D preview for the theatrical re-issues and Panny MAY even have some kind of exclusive BD3D demo disc available with their 3D hardware later in 2011.]

Looks like my prediction on the other thread isn't far off then.

Spooky.

Well the trailer for the Blu-Ray is up now. The OT colours are exactly the same as 2004 but yet again they use the new transfer for TPM. Well hopefully this will shut the kenkraly's of this world up now. THE COLOURS WILL NOT BE FIXED FOR THE BLU-RAY. It's the official LFL trailer and you can clearly see that even the crappy sabres are the same as 2004. Just looks at the crossed sabres in front of the Emperor.

So September 2011. Couldn't have timed it better. Now i won't have to part with any money for this set but instead get it brought for me for my wedding anniversary ;)

Ken could still claim that it's just a trailer and LFL would be too busy working their fingers to the bone giving us the best version yet to use any actual footage from the product they are trying to sell.

I bet the Emperor's slugs are still in there the shot flashes by too quickly for me to spot them.

Of course, you have to buy the whole shebang to get the bonus features.  LAME.

That actually bums me out more than it being the same transfer. I want it all, but I don't want it all... TORN

I'm surprised that the OT is available on its own to begin with.

This is what really annoys me in the press blub:

Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray will feature all six live-action Star Wars feature films utilizing the highest possible picture and audio presentation,..

Highest possible picture presentation? With all the screwed up colouring of the OT and the lightsabre gaffs to start off with? I really use to respect LFL for being pioneers in picture and audio quality, always striving to present the movies in the best quality, but now they're too pig-headed to admit that there is anything wrong with these transfers but they will spend the time & money to restore TPM's and include the CG Yoda. It really shows now just how much GL hates the OT. I guess all the prequel lovers will be happy though

Yeah, saw that trailer on the amazon site as well. It's possible that's just a promo trailer and not an accurate representation of what will come. However, like you said, Episode 1 looks improved, certainly less pink there and the sabers look more saturated, so if that's anything to go by, then this is it - this is what we're getting !

I couldn't really tell much from the limited footage shown, but it looked possibly like there was less blue in ANH where Han is being chased by the storm troopers in the corridor - the walls look more grey than they 2004 DVD but I could be wrong. The Hoth battle clip looked better than I remember it being on the 2004 DVD too, and some of the laser blasts from the ties seem a little greener, but other than that, I couldn't really tell.

It's been so long since I have watched the 2004 DVDs that the changes that I thought I could see in the trailer, might not be new changes at all. The most obvious thing I could see that is unchanged like you said is the crappy sabers.

The actual movies of this release hold no interest for me, which is a shame as they should be the main focus of the release not the special features! Still as I don't own a blu-ray player I suppose its a moot point.

Did anyone else notice the last line of the trailer is Vader saying "There is no escape" I can't help but feel this is directed at us, GL rubbing salt into the wound! :(

With quality control being what it is at LFL with a bit of luck they will slip up and accidentally include all the missing shots etc we need in the special features to make a HD restoration of the OUT! :D

For those who think that this trailer might just be using old footage and are still hopeful for correct colors on the BR, think about this:

If they didn't fix it in the last 6 years, they're not going to in the next 6 months.
