Hey dumbass...

...get off your high horse and move on damn *****!

...you sir,not so much(have you done anything).

Well, I see you're a nice guy.  As a matter of fact, I'm in the planning stages of an OT edit (mainly ROTJ) and I'm writing the scripts for the in-the-works animated reimagining of Episodes I-III.  I've also been here almost a year longer than you have.

While I see how you might have construed my post the way you obviously did, I was just expressing my opinion on a matter in what I thought was a tongue-in-cheek manner.  You don't need to be a dick about it, I wasn't trying to be.

Anyway, let's move past this now, I don't want to start any shit with anyone here.  If you still want to hurl insults at me, shoot me a PM, but let's not clutter this thread up anymore.

Encoding again tonight....

Hey everyone.

Probably a pointless question now that whats happend has happend, but when I downloaded the original edit it wouldnt go on to a dual layer disc (problems my side I'm sure) so I compressed it and stuck it on a DVD5, it could be what I did but the quality wasn't great. Is that my fault for shrinking it?

Author

That's a relative term.  Depends what you used to shrink it, what the settings were, what were you playing it back on...both player and TV.  All are factors.

Why wouldn't it fit on a DL?  Mine made it no problem.  What program did you use to try to burn it originally, before you shrank it?

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Shrinking a DVD9 to a DVD5 will definitely reduce the quality. If you're using something like DVDshrink, it will certainly hurt the video quality, because it is just transcoding the video, which is bad, but the quickest and easiest way to shrink a DVD9 to a DVD5. Try using something like DVDrebuilder (there's a free version and a paid version; the free version is pretty complete as is). It uses external encoders, which can become expensive, but I believe it comes with one built-in for starters. The difference between this and, say, dvdshrink, is that this actually re-encodes the video to fit on a DVD5, instead of just compressing it, so the quality can be dramatically better. Since I've used it, I've never looked back at DVD shrink for DVD9 conversions again. The downside is that encoding can take several hours, and setup can be a bit tricky if you're new at this, but there is a manual on the site, as well as plenty of online help.

Not sure why you couldn't burn to a DVD9 though, shouldn't be a problem. Could it be the burning software you're using?

I found another Director's Edition effect that escaped. Is it too late?

I'm not sure what I think about it at this point, so I figured I'd post it and get reactions from you guys.  But this is what I have so far, cover-wise.

Hey, FF. I keep trying to send this as a PM, but I keep getting error messages … so:

I noticed that a few days ago, you had this to say:

“This is the edits big snag. This is the section where we run into missing footage. For some reason, there is missing footage foe parts of this scene. The few missing sections have not made been release in letterbox anyplace. As far as I can see, there is no way to fix this error without the scene becoming more noticeable then it is now.”

Now, I’m one of those OCD folks who is going to be driven utterly up the wall by the thought that the “preservation” I’m watching is missing some stuff. 😉 So I’m wondering – is there any way to “patch in” the left and right side of the scenes in question?

I believe I suggested this before, when there was some missing footage around Nurse Chapel sedating Chekov … if the fullscreen shot is from the same angle as an earlier or later shot that you DO have in widescreen, can you just cut-and-paste in the left and right-hand sides of the screen from that other shot? Thus sort of “recreating” the widescreen? Yes, it might look weird, but remember this movie has a TON of dual-focus tricks that produce blurry lines down the center or sides of the screen … I don’t think this edit will be any more disruptive than all of those…! 😃

Alternately, is there any chance you could put that fullscreen scene, IN FULL, on your disc as a deleted scene? So even if we can’t watch it as part of the movie, we can watch the fullscreen version separately, just for completeness?

Thanks, FF. Can’t wait to see the finished product. Good luck!

I was under the impression it was the TMP Enterprise.  I'm not a big enough Star Trek guy to notice those things or to have them bother me at all.  I figured I needed something for the bottom, and there aren't very many good, high-quality TMP images.  Suggestions are welcome.

New Movie, Original Series, Original Movies.  TMP didn't have an "A" on it though.  I can't find any good pictures of the TMP E, but I'm sure someone on this thread does.

Good for you, man.  Good for you.

The cover is pretty good.  I think I'd prefer the text on the back in a box instead of just on the image.

I'm guessing the TOS E and Bird of Prey back cover images are placeholders, since he did say "so far", meaning the cover is still a work in progress.

Precisely.

Speaking of which, if anyone has good images of any kind from "The Motion Picture" that aren't used on the current iteration of the cover, please point me in the right direction - what's on there is pretty much all I could find.

If someone could screengrab the shot of Enterprise emerging from the shockwave at the end of the movie, that would make a lovely image on the back.

Doh. This is probably too late, but there are some Director's Editions effects that escaped my first viewing.

00:20:22- The Enterprise's reflection during the tour of the Enterprise. There was no reflection in the previous versions.

00:21:21 - 00:21:28- Ok, this one is tricky, but it is a visual effects change. During the pan-down shot of the Enterprise, take note of the back end of the Travel Pod as it turns the oher direction. The Director's Edition of the effects are very smooth while the other editions have a very awkward looking 'black flapping' like effect behind the shuttle pod.

00:40:42- The Earth that is seen on the viewing screen in the "Departure Angle" shot is a new Director's Edition effect shot. The Earth from all other versions are pretty static and moves away at a much faster speed.

I'll keep in touch.

Hello all:

I have a pretty good resolution image of the motion picture Enterprise, an image I scanned and cleaned up from the CMYK side of the 3-D poster from back when - I'm just trying to figure out how to post it. Is there a way to link to my desktop and upload to this site? Thanks.

Not sure if it can be uploaded to the forum directly, but you can always upload it to megaupload or any of the other file sharing sites. Anybody in the forum can then grab it if they would like to.

I think I know the poster you mean. If it is the one I'm thinking of, it was awesome. It had a really cool image of the enterprise on 1 side in full color, and then the opposite side was the same image in 3D. The 3D was amazing, too. I really wish I still had it, but it got damaged years ago during a move.

I usually use Photobucket, but that kinda sucks for large images - you could put it in a ZIP or RAR archive and upload it to Rapidshare or something of the like.

If you can't figure something out, PM me.

Man, I love that model...

Just to let you all know, we should have the corrected version back out by next weekend.

FF, since this is your project after all, do you have any suggestions or requests in regards to the cover?  A different text block on the back maybe?  (I made mine up mostly from scratch, and I'm not sure if I'm happy with it)

And thank you for that scan, tmpfan - it'll work beautifully.
