The Evil Dead Treasures Collection (Released) — Page 3

So is this available yet?

It has already been sent out in the post to 9 people, although it would be difficult for me to torrent it because of bandwidth restrictions and its 7GB big. You can message me if you want one posting out and see if we can work something out.

DVD2: Evil Dead 1 (Extended Version) 1:36:04 PAL

Interested to see if this is just the AB ultimate SE raw footage & elite DVD raw footage edited back into the standard edition, or if its something proper? most of the rest of that list is likely just lifted from existing retail DVDs though, rather than really rare bootlegged stuff. That said I wouldn't say no to a copy!

I really hope there's either some torrenting or RapidShare uploading of this set, as it looks sickeningly wonderful.

I might be able to do a rapidshare upload as I would have to only upload the 7GB once, although I wouldn't want the board to get flack for posting links, and enough people would need to download it to keep it from going offline.

If your DVDs do not contain material from the original DVDs, they can be put in the firstling fanedite section and if approved on fanedit.org for technical quality, could be moved to the fanedits section.

Technically speaking, and as far as I'm aware, none of this exact video material has been released on legal retail DVDs before (with the possible exception of some semi-bootlegged german DVDs) and that includes the contents of the DVD-ROM folder. I either sourced it from a laserdisc or VHS tapes, nothing came from retail DVDs. apart from the seperate issue of the material itself (from whatever source) having a copyright.

Just to reiterate - the whole point of the Treasures Collection is to collect material that has not been released onto commercial DVD, and likely never will be.  You won't see any material from retail DVDs, regardless of what country it's from and how rare it is.

Not sure how Rapidshare works, but if you were to get someone who pays for an account to upload it, then I think the files would be kept online permanently?  It's true that we don't allow posting of RS links on the board, but you can post the links on another site (e.g. linktalk) and direct people there.

Who are you quoting there? As far as I'm aware, fanedit.org do not put what we call "preservations" on their site.

he was quoting me there :)
I read through the list of what was included and it sounded like a compilation of not officially available things, aka a special edition. But I am not firm in this at all and don't know about what was where and when officially available and fall under copyright. It was just a suggestion.

The 1985 Japanese laserdisc was officially available.
In Japan.
In 1985.
And it's a similar case for the 1985 Greek VHS...

Everything else on the disc is I believe from unofficial sources.

That said, what exactly is your arrangement with linktalk? A fan project does not neccesarily have to be listed on the fe.org main site to be uploaded there, does it?

no, moth3r, it doesn't.
I was referring to the fanedit section of linktalk, which only lists those things that are approved on fanedit.org. There are of course various other sections to post links.
They are a nice place so far, good guys.

Well, It's a wonderfull things you do. I'm a big fan of the three Evil Dead.

If I have a good memories, the Greek VHS version, contains an alternate title sequence. Where we can see "Book of the Dead" instead of "The Evil Dead".

Where can i get a copy of your work?

The Evil Dead: The Treasures Collection will have finished uploading to alt.binaries.multimedia.horror in a few hours time.

(Note this is officially V1.1 - differences in this version are a fixed field order on the Book of the Dead segment, fixed spelling error in the release notes, and additional DVD-ROM content.)

So far three discs have been completed - one disc for ED1, and two for ED2.  The second ED1 disc and the AOD one will be finished in the coming months, so watch this space!

I've adapted the old script I used for Star Wars laserdisc comparison screenshots to illustrate the differences between the US Elite Entertainment DVD and the Japanese Herald Videogram laserdisc:

I'd love to but unfortunately my bandwidth isn't has generous as it used to be. Also, my ED1 Treasures is version 1.0 (I believe the version on usenet is 1.1) and has been split over two DVD5's instead of being contained on a single DVD9, so it would be best not to distribute that one.

I could certainly send out a copy of the ED2 discs to whomever has the facilities to share them online with everyone else or even start a PIF chain.

That's great, Moth3r. I started doing my own little comparison last night and this certainly makes things alot easier.

Did you manage to grab it DJ? Have you watched it yet, and if so what did you think?

Are you going to put this up on myspleen?

Some time ago djsmokingjam offered to send me the ED2 discs to put up on the newsgroups - I told him to hold off, as at the time I had issues with my ISP's traffic management policy. However, I've now resolved this so could upload if there's any interest.

While the difference in cropping is interesting, it doesn't really make that much of a difference. However, the higher contrast 'look' and colder colour grading has a massive effect on the visual atmosphere of the film.

For example:

^ Little Red Riding Hood visits her grandmother's cottage in the woods.

v An isolated cabin is besieged by an unseen evil force in the woods

Yes M I did get it,I will check it out now and let you know what I think, but from the screens you provided showing the differences,is it suppose to look so blue?

and how do these screens compare to the Limited Book of The Dead that Anchor Bay released?

I would like to get my hands on a copy of the Elite DVD,I think that looks pretty cool, lots of extras to.

and yes if Griff sends the DVD's to me I will put them up on Spleen,I think he is going to send them, very helpful guy he is.

Well, apparently the DVD transfers for both the Anchor Bay and the Elite releases were supervised by Raimi himself. So you could argue that the brighter, warmer picture is what the director intended.

However, many fans think that the darker, colder colour grading on this old laserdisc release makes the film scarier.
