Am I the only person on the internet without a modicum of interest in this film?

Oh, I see, well in that case, you probably are the only one...

I hold many a modicum of interest in this film, even though I am certain as I can be that it will be absolutely dreadful.

I totally forgot about that YTMND internet meme disguized as a flick. Did it open already?

I'm with you Chaltab. I have no intention of seeing that movie. I must admit that part of me is curious and part of me wants to laugh at it. Also, part of me doesn't want to severely criticize something without seeing it. But above all that, I believe this is a crappy movie, and I don't want to pay $8.00 and encourage studios to make more crappy movies.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

If I hear it's good, I might see it. But I refuse to watch any movie for no other reason than it has a stupid name and stars Samuel L. Jackson.

If it stared Samual L. Jackson, on the other hand... maybe.

Okay, I saw the movie last night, and I have to say that it was extremely entertaining. It was way over the top (intentionally) and it delivers on its promises.

Example of its over-the-topness:

There's a scene where a couple are having sex in the bathroom stall on the plane. They tear the smoke detector out of the ceiling so they can smoke pot. A snake or two fall through the hole in the ceiling and start biting the hell out of the couple. One of the snakes bites the girl right on the tit and hooks on. Then it cuts to the next scene.

I mean, c'mon, this movie even has Snake-vision!

I'm not willing to see it as well.

If SOAP out-grosses 'Superman Returns' on its opening weekend I'm going to literally laugh my ass off. Which is good as I could use an ass upgrade anyhow.

I caught an advance screening last night & let me just say SNAKES ON A PLANE KICKS ASS!!!!

is it a masterpiece? no, not by any stretch of the imagination.

But it's so over the top & so much fun!!! The snake gags are great...especially the 2 bathroom scenes, and Samuel L Jackson is still a bad mutha fucka

...and let me tell you, if Mace Windu said "That's it! I've had it with these muthafuckin sith in my muthafuckin temple!!!!" right before he tried to kill Palpatine, the sheer bad-assness of the statement would have had little orphan Anakin pissing in his robes & he would have been too over come with awe to intervene...Palpatine would have died, Anakin would not have turned to the dark side & the empire would have never risen, the Sith would have disappeared & the Jedi would have never been killed off.

Luke & Leia would have grown up with loving parents.

Luke would have been a great pilot just like his father

i'm sure the odd intergalactic battle would have taken place from time to time, and then, eventually, another war would break out, and Luke would be a 'hero' just like his father was

Then, one day, some cunning saboteur would get to Luke's ship, and we, the audience, would be treated to the next great summer movie...

I guess I'm one of those entertaining teens.

In the theater last night, there were about five people I didn't know, and then about twenty from my school. It was without a doubt the most fun I've ever had at a movie theater.
Whenever they showed the snake POV shots, my friend yelled out "SNAKE VISION!!" as loud as he could. And then when the dog got eaten, he said "NO, MARY-KATE, NO!!"

My goodness, best movie-going experience ever.

I laughed! I cried! I kissed eight bucks goodbye! It's a big, goofy, no-apologies homage to the "Airport" disaster flicks of the 70's. (The ones "Airplane!" nailed the coffin shut on.) It's a crying shame George Kennedy was not approached to do a cameo! Even the Irwin Allen disaster movie laws of who lives and who dies are adhered to.
I'm fairly sure most movie critics won't "get it" though.

Dude, that is hilarious.

I am hearing some very good things about this movie, and if what you guys are saying is anything to go by, the critics seem to be "getting it" as well - including IGN.

So I'm trying to come to a conclusion. Did they simply make a shitty movie because they couldn't do any better? Or did they purposely make a shitty movie to be amusing? Or did they accidentally make a shitty movie and are now playing along when reviewers think they were doing something clever?

I'm pretty sure that's it.

War does not make one great.
