Indeed. It’s just another example of George doing things because they look cool instead of thinking them through. He did it in the OT as well (burning Star Destroyers anyone?), but he seemed to keep the occurrences rare in those days. Well at least until Jedi came along.

Oh, so I am not the only one who thinks the Executor's collision with the Death Star looks strange? Good.

Far from it my friend. I know many people that have issues with that shot. My suspension of disbelief is stretched more in Jedi than in the other two OT films combined. There’s the Executor, there’s Lando and Wedge (non-Jedi I might point out) maneuvering in and out of the DS2, the aforementioned Tarzan yell and many others. I had questions about Storm Trooper armor in the first two films, but after ROTJ I think I have it figured out. It’s implosive reactive armor. I’m sure more than a few people have heard of explosive reactive armor, which explodes outward to minimize the impact of an incoming kinetic device. Well the Storm Trooper armor does the exact opposite; it explodes inward when something impacts the surface. That’s the only explanation I can concoct to explain how a rock to the ankle kills Storm Troopers.
