Hey everyone. As I mentioned in the Eddie Murphy: Delirious thread, I'm sorry I've been away for so long. Life, unfortunately, got between me and DVD production but it seems that things have returned to normal (not counting my upcoming move). The point is, I'm back to work on this and I'm sorry it's taken this damn long.

Is there a complete Criterion Transfer of Ghostbusters or just the extras?

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

It's just the extras from Criterion's CAV laserdisc (and possibly something else - see next paragraph), which is why I decided to call it "Ectoplasmic Residue." While it's a decent transfer, I thought Sony/Columbia did a stellar job with their initial DVD release (sadly out of print, but easily available). The same transfer is now available as part of that awful green box set. When and if I'm able to obtain software that can handle dual-layer authoring without going nuts, I may decide to revisit this idea and do an "ultimate" version - movie and all.

That said, I'm looking for a decent quality version of the Ray Parker, Jr music video. I snagged one from a GB fan site, but I'd rather not have to resort to using its pixilated goodness if I there's an actual source I can capture. If anyone can point me to a DVD, laserdisc, or even a pre-recorded VHS tape, it would be appreciated greatly.

I have two items of interest. A promo for Ghostbusters than ran on HBO, not sure it is on any of the releases. I have the Ray Parker Video from the NBC Show Friday Night Videos.

The Promo is called "on the scene with Ghostbusters", interveiws with most of the main cast.
The Ray parker video in in pretty good shape, Typical VHS quality.

Let me know if this is of any help.

What's happened to this project?

I was really looking forward to this!

It's still being worked on. Photoshopping the storyboards is taking a lot of time. Maybe it's because I'm too much of a perfectionist. The plan is for the storyboards to have their own VTS so you can use your chapter skip button to thumb through the storyboards (much like the Step button of a laserdisc player).

I'm still looking for an analog source of the Ray Parker, Jr. video and have feelers out for a source of the original video with Chevy Chase, John Candy, and a number of other celebrities.

If worse comes to worst, I'll just release what I have once I'm finished.

The original video is up on youtube.com Why not PM the uploaders and arrange to get the source copy?

I just may do that if the source I found today doesn't work out.

Some hard work and an eBay auction helped out with this immensely. We've just taken a giant step forward here.

It's kind of funny how I found this. I had been Googling the web with a number of query strings for months and coming up with virtually nothing except for the online version at one of the Ghostbusters fan sites. I don't know why I didn't think of eBay before wasting all that time, but I found three different guys selling 80's music videos on DVD - all claiming they were logo-free. Two guys were selling $100+ sets, which I briefly considered before looking at a single disc being auctioned by a Canadian seller.

The source of the video is unknown (the seller wouldn't tell me), but looks like it may have been sourced from a broadcast master from ETV (any Canadians familiar with this channel?). I'm not going to look a $20 gift horse in the mouth. This is the original, four-minute version with the myriad celebrities, like Jeffrey Tambor (hey now!):

Does it contain the original sound or is it a re-dub? I have a dvd version that has Promo only appear for a few seconds, but the sound is not the original with the cameos voices. I have been working on re-syncing it up with a lower quality video that does have original audio but not as good video quality for a similar project to yours.

It looks like it's the re-dub, Neil. No cameo voices here

I thought I had the real deal, but that's what happens when I get excited without watching the video all the way through. However, considering this is the best form of the video I've found so far, this gets to stay in the rendering queue for now.

By the way, are you the same Neil that was over on the Ghostbuster HQ forums?

Promo Only is a company that releases CD's and DVD's monthly for DJ's, clubs and bars. They're all mastered from original tapes and usually have fantastic quality. Same with CD's. However, subscpritions usually cost A LOT and you have to prove that you work in radio/entertainment industry.

If this has come from that source it seems weird that its not the original audio then.

He may or may not be, but I'm the same Net that owns the joint... I'd love to help in any way that I can... as long as I get a copy when all is said and done.

Promo Only gets master tapes from the record companies.

I don't know the history behind this so I can't help you. Obviously there was alternate audio made for an official release, no?

I'm sure I have this as an SVCD downloaded years ago from the music video newsgroups - I think it has the original audio too with the celebrity voices. I can have a look if you're interested.

It's pretty good quality, but has an MTV or VH1 ident on it - the audio might be useable if you can sync it up to the video you already have.
