Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers ** — Page 86

For as much as I complain about everything, I like to think that my complaints about Star Wars movies I don’t like are pretty few and far between and are pretty fair, especially for me.

…and the s***storm of people complaining about that is going to be ten times worse than the fan division created by TLJ.

Nah. There’s no episode number which makes it easier to divorce if ya don’t like it.

Hahahaha people not complaining when they don’t like any Star Wars movie. You’re funny.

I’m saying I don’t think the bitching will be as strong, loud or passionate as it was for TLJ. Not that there won’t be any.

Good stuff oojason. I checked out the original Japanese poster from your link, and like that fan version of it better than the official U.K. poster above it - and is that an ‘arm sling’ Lando is wearing?

I initially liked this particular artwork best (click on it to magnify) - www.jedinews.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/solo-film-poster.jpg , but that Japanese version is pretty good too.

Anyway, I caught this neat ‘Renault’ tie-in for the first time during the ad breaks in the U.K. today. Although there’s no sign of ‘Solo’ himself, It gives a good idea of how the ‘hoverbikes’ look and move if anyone wants to see them in action -

The U.K. poster looks great, I wish it was the official theatrical. The current one looks like they copy pasted characters all over the place and put a red filter.

Someone did a re-working of the colours for the UK poster, here…

https://twitter.com/RuairiRobinson/status/987156026808983552

(edited to include the correct pic - cheers ray 😃)

a side by side comparison can be found here - https://twitter.com/RuairiRobinson/status/987105936098541568

Not a big thing - but some people like a more natural colour to their art (my old eyes couldn’t tell that much)

(Lando does look like he has his arm in a sling now you mention it 😃)

The Japan one actually has reasonable composition, the UK just draws the eye to that giant orange glow in the left corner for no reason.

Is it just me or have most of the Disney era Star Wars posters had a very… Commercial (?) feel to them?

I think the theatrical TLJ poster was alright, but a number of other ones strike me more as promotional posters you buy in stores from the prequel era. Kind of like these: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/a9-IKSKOlpw/maxresdefault.jpg

Commercial might not be the right word but they have a very slapped-together feel, especially some of the Solo ones and for Rogue One.

Maybe it’s just the heavy use of photoshop, I’m not sure.

Wish they would have stuck with the more classic style of poster art instead of the generic blockbuster treatment.

I think the days of one guy painting the poster image are long gone, sadly.

Woah! ^ That’s the first shot of Ehrenreich that makes me think he could work as Han Solo…
But unfortunately he doesn’t look as much like Dick Valentine as usual. And that’s disappointing now.
(the movie looks good, but I’m still very much looking forward to see if Han exclaims “YES!” or “SOLO!” or “NEW YORK CITY!”)

I gotta agree. Most of em look like the type hanging slightly crooked on kids bedroom walls.

I agree on some, but not all. Don’t think I ever found a TLJ poster I didn’t like, and most of the Solo ones have been excellent thus far. Plus Rogue One had a couple really good ones too. TFA was rough though.

Some interesting new info here;
https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2018/04/interesting-new-bios-about-the-main-characters-from-solo-a-star-wars-story.html

L3-37:

A “self-made droid”, L3-37 has cobbled herself together using an assortment of components from astromechs, protocol droids and countless other robotic sources, devising her own form and function to become something quite unique – with an impressive AI to match. L3-37 is Lando Calrissian’s enlightened navigator and co-pilot. Her programming makes for an indignant, spirited and somewhat eccentric companion, who cares deeply about droid rights. With a mind of her own (after all, she built it) L3-37 is subservient to no one.

Plus, a fair bit of info about Han’s youth and Corellia in the new EU:

Times are tough under Imperial rule, with planets across the galaxy feeling the pressure of the Emperor’s iron grip. One such world that has seen better days is Corellia, transformed by the Galactic Empire into one of its principle starship production facilities, it’s famous shipyards now churning out TIE fighters, Star Destroyers and many other weapons of Imperial domination. To survive the harsh reality that has befallen his homeworld, a young street thief named Han spends his days running scams while working for a notorious Corellian gang, stealing what he can and cutting deals on behalf of his ill-tempered crime boss. Han is unrefined, reckless, and continuously getting himself into scrapes – then improvising his way out of them. Never one to plan too far ahead, Han goes where opportunity calls. Determined to become “the best pilot in the galaxy”, he enlists in the Imperial navy only to find himself kicked out of the flight academy for “having a mind of his own”.
