Not sure if anyone else noticed this, but Rifftrax.com just released a “NEW high-ish quality VHS Transfer” of the SWHS. I wonder what version they used.

Have you not seen the broadcast master EditDroid gave us a couple years ago, Zion? It has about 4 times the resolution of that Rifftrax clip.

In fact, Zion did a hybrid version based on the EditDroid transfer which included the optional RiffTrax commentary and commercials. Doesn’t look like RiffTrax used that one, but they should have. I’m curious as well what version they used. I bought a copy, so I’ll see if I can glean any information from it.

I thought that RiffTrax used KCCI?

Wow, this is really surreal. I’m watching the new Rifftrax streaming version for the first time and it is definitely my version of the crawl. Same edit of the opening Rifftrax commentary, same music I chose, same double dissolve to black at the end of the crawl (a mistake I corrected on my v2 DVD, but present on my original DVD and most likely any other release that used my crawl).

It’s kinda weird knowing I just paid to watch something I created, but at the same time also fun and exciting. Maybe I should contact them and say “you’re welcome”. 😛

I thought it looked like your crawl, but I knew the actual footage came from another source. They must have figured the EditDroid-based footage was too nice to use, so they had to go to the effort to create a whole new spliced-together version.

Again, how do they get away with selling this? And what’s next, a live show in theaters?

Whenever I’m The Puyallup Fair or the Emerald City Comicon I browse the booth(s) selling videos.

And sure enough, if I look long enough, I find the SWHS.

Someone who’s selling a million of the things on eBay is one thing; do you think that people who are selling this video (and some others – Harmy’s and a suspect-looking Ewoks double-feature (suspect in that the back doesn’t look like mine does) – know what it is they’re selling? And its legality?

This is rather embarrassing, but I completely missed out on the Boba Fett animatic leica reel that the official site had almost 10 years ago. I have tried using Wayback Machine to get it, but since the site switch that Disney did, all flash content from 2008 to 2011 no longer works. I was wondering if someone still has a copy of the leica reel that they can send me via private topic message. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration for that!! 😃

One thing I like about the Star Wars saga are the planets, especially the ones wet with rain, hahaha! Kamino, Eadu, and Ach-To - all three of them have enormous amounts of rain, it seems. 😃

Is there a studio master version of this that exists out there? I’m confused. I have the Zion Hybrid v2, the Gormaanda Hybrid v2, and the Editdrid, all on the organ. Is there one I missed?

No. The Editdroid is sourced from a station master tape. I believe the Zion Hybrid v2 is taken from that same source, but someone spliced the commercials back into it and also did some editing work (I forget what and don’t want to mislead you, but I recall it was aimed at making the picture slightly better). I’m not familiar with the Gormaanda Hybrid. But, no, I don’t think there is one you are missing.

Thanks. I was wondering how I would have missed one. I dind’t know the Editdroid came from a master though, so thanks for explaining that.

Mine is sourced from the EditDroid release with some noise reduction and color correction applied.

Also, did anyone see the new Solo trailer? There’s a shot of Chewie hugging another wookiee. Could it be… Malla?!?

The metal tub, used by Malla in the kitchen, looks similar to the one seen in: THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE (1974).

Oh yes, a singer singing to a dildo while the guitar player plays the guitar with his teeth, that’s what will save the Disney Star Wars 😃

I loathe how people continue to paint Disney as ruining Star Wars. As though “Disney” itself, as one singular corporate entity, is responsible for any and all decisions re Star Wars. And as though George Lucas is absolved and exonerated for all his awful decisions regarding the SEs, Prequels, et al., simply because he had the original idea for the original film.

To be fair, while Disney obviously isn’t going to have their hands on everything, it’s pretty naive to believe one of the biggest corporations in the world who spent literal billions of dollars on an IP is just going to sit there and let what is essentially a subdivision of their company run things willy-nilly without any input. Come on guys, you’re smarter than this.

Back on topic though I think it’d be hilarious if Chewie’s wife was in Solo.

I mean people blame “Disney”, as though there aren’t actual filmmakers, screenwriters, etc. involved. Last I checked, Ron Howard was a good director.

Also, to say “Disney” is ruining Star Wars is to suggest they generally ruin things, and that George was not already ruining Star Wars.

Another recording has popped up, this time on UMatic.

This part in the Ebay page stuck out to me: “Since 1978, these tapes have been stored in air-conditioned vault.”

Whomever this saffilms guy is, this means they are in PRISTINE condition. What I wonder is, is the quality even better than the EditDroid one? Because that one so far has been the ultimate highest quality one yet (of course, though, the Zion hybrid is great too). I hope whoever bought these will transfer them to digital so fans can see it. I am all for having the highest quality version ever. Especially since this is the 40th anniversary year of it.

I’m a little dubious about that auction. Why a stock photo and not a pic of the actual tapes? It also says the commercials have been edited out. If that’s true, it’s a second generation tape presuming the original recording was even on U-Matic to begin with. Also possible it simply has breaks where commercials would go.
Without more information, there’s no way to tell if this was an off air recording or a dub off a broadcast master.
For the kind of money they’re asking, some screenshots would be nice.

It’s been relisted 40$ cheaper since the first auction got no bids.

Are all of the versions we currently have sourced from broadcast recordings? I thought that at least one project was sourced from something of higher quality.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
