Truth be told, the scene at the staircase never really worked for me.
But why? Line delivery? Behaviour? I’m eager to know.

Well, the scene played out a little weak to me. I guess a little more could’ve been added to that short moment before Harry leaves. Plus, a rather unnecessary mention of Hogwarts’ restriction of underage wizardry.
I completely understand if you feel you want to leave this scene in. It’s only my suggestion.
Hmm, interesting. I’m not against you, but I’m not sure I’m entirely with you either. I like the scene - I think it creates some extra tension and show some character growth, standing up for himself, and also depicts all the emotions coming with puberty.
I agree with you that it’s short - perhaps a bit redundant, and I can’t help but feel that a lot of stuff was left on the cutting room floor.
