Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD * — Page 99

One thing i thought of recently (not sure if anyone else has posted about this before, so i apologise if they have) is why would the First Order make themselves look so much like the Empire, their ships etc? Well it started me thinking, it’s all about Snoke and Kylo. Snoke plays on Kylo’s wish to be a powerful as his Grandfather. Snoke feeds off this desire as a way to control Kylo and get him to do his bidding. What better way to do it than to have Kylo constantly reminded of the Empire that is grandfather was the Emperors right hand man. He plays himself off like an Emperor figure. Having Kylo as his apprentivce directly mirrors Palpatine and Vader and feeds into this desire.

And we see in TJL that he constantly derides him about not being anywhere near as good as Vader. This makes Kylo want to prove himself. He even has an updated version of his Grandfathers TIE fighter. All to feed into the wanting of Kylo.

That’s just my theory anyway 😉

It’d make sense, but something inside me wishes that we had entirely new ship designs and cruiser designs and such. Still though, the way they constructed Kylo Ren’s character made sense for the visuals to still be the same. Well put Adywan.

i had some thoughts this morning about how the ST seems to be inverting the traditional structure for Star Wars trilogies. Rather than rewriting them here, here’s a link to my tweet storm on the subject.

Good thoughts, I’m also intrigued by the possibilities here.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

More island stuff, less Canto Bight and space chase would have been fine.

Proof that RT is not worth the faith studios have in it these days.

While I agree with the sentiment, I don’t think this counts for proof. Studios don’t care about the audience scores there (they have other methods for that), they pay attention to the critic scores (in part because audiences do too).

Critical responses on RT take mediocre and above and translate them all into “fresh”. User reviews clearly count for nothing despite them publicly saying that there was no evidence of interference (how they would ever catch anyone is unclear).

Metacritic critic scores are more accurate, though most people don’t even know that site exists.

I am one of the people who made account on RT just to give negative score for TLJ. Lots of people did the same, a way of expressing disapproval.

Assimilate THIS!

Well I don’t know about that, but I think that anyone who knows what review-bombing means will go to every outlet. I don’t know where some people on both sides of this debate get the energy.

I said “critic scores,” not audience scores. I’d imagine the audience score on Metacritic is equally abysmal for the same pathetic reasons.

I don’t know where some people on both sides of this debate get the energy.

Neither do I, seems like a waste of time. I’m not even sure what the point is. I barely even knew that RT audience scores were a thing until this whole kerfuffle.

Studios have been slowly using them more than critic’s blurbs in advertising for some time now.

Yes, but always the critic score, not the audience score.

I see. The ads I’ve seen didn’t really specify beyond touting the score.

The truth is no one pays attention to the audience score. It has nothing to do with the certified fresh rating, which is the thing that they usually attach to trailers, DVD covers, etc.

If it wasn’t a fake out scene, it’d be an… interesting take on the lesson of “You can’t save everyone.”

Luke did something we’ve never seen any other Jedi do before. He projected a solid version of himself across unimaginable distances and could interact with Leia and even Threepio. That had to come with a price. In the end, Luke saved the day one last time and went out a hero.

Maybe we had never seen this before because it makes alot of things obsolete.
If the jedi (and throught the time there were a lot of jedi more powerful than Luke) could project a solid self to anywhere in the galaxy they could enter enemy ships ore bases and sabotage it or so. Many things in the war would be handled differently.

This solid projection reminds me of the transwarp beaming in ST:Into Darkness.
An invention that makes the entire Starfleet pointless. Why not let Luke come to the battle in person and die like a hero? Not like “go to sleep on a dank rock!”

“LUKE… I’M SEEING HIM.
HE’S COMMANDING THE IMPERIAL FORCES… LIKE OUR FATHER!
I FEAR WE LOST HIM, HAN… I FEAR WE LOST EVERYTHING.”
