I think what is throwing some people off is this movie goes against expectations. It was a huge gamble to go against the grain and go darker than ESB ever dreamed of being. The Rebels were on the run in ESB, but never did we see them decimated like this, literally down to one command ship and enough people to fit in the Falcon. And the last sliver of hope allies will come and save the day is met with radio silence. Things have never been this bad for the good guys.

Luke has felt the burden of being the hero of legend and a few seconds of fear and indecision has cost everyone dearly. We are light years from that night on Endor with our heroes surrounded by happy Ewoks.

I honestly don’t know where the next film will take us, because a lot of this felt like what should have been saved for it.

There is a power vacuum in the First Order now, and I doubt Kylo is going to be able to throw everyone who disagrees with him into a wall. Someone even worse than Snoke could be waiting in the wings seizing the opportunity to take control.

This is something I loved about TLJ, it didn’t take the middle movie safe route any more than ESB, and like you said, went even further. Can’t wait to see where Kylo goes from here.

I’m actually curious about that direction too. Of all the things TLJ made interesting for me, it was the way it subverted Kylo Ren’s possible redemption. I’m more annoyed that it was a little too hamfisted in how “failure is the best teacher,” as it feels like nobody won at the end.

They did live to fight another day, which may be enough.

The fact Adam is - by far - the only good actor in the movie helps a lot (I love Mark but he’s not a good as expected. Not going to say anything about Daisy who is such a terrible actress I feel sorry for her). Too bad they gave him a weird and embarrassing side kick (General Bugs… heu… no… Hux !).

Why do I even keep reading these troll posts, let alone respond to them?

When Yoda hit Luke with his cane, it did actually touch him, right? I thought between that and the “I came here to die” statement that the projection Luke was an already-dead Luke appearing as a Force ghost. I was happy to be wrong, otherwise we wouldn’t have the beautiful sunset scene, but now I have questions about the corporeality of Force ghosts.

Ben sat down on a log in ROTJ. And Yoda was on the Ewok village railing at the end. I imagine some physical contact is possible. Even more so when in a location strong in the Force.

Also, the vision of Vader Luke encountered in the Dagobah cave was solid enough when he fought with it.

There was a moment while watching Kylo and Rey’s scenes together where I believed they were going to become the next star-crossed lovers like Han & Leia and Anakin & Padme. Unfortunately, it was nothing like that.

I just saw The Last Jedi in IMAX and noticed that there were no expanded scenes from what I can remember, despite the fact that Disney advertised filming some scenes in IMAX. Was this the case for anyone else?

I wouldn’t have walked out in disgust. I would have just seen it as another cliche repeated in the ST.

Even if it were the case, you have the film dragged into some love triangle square. Rose chasing Finn, Finn chasing Rey, and Rey chasing Kylo. Just no, please.

I left the theater thinking Rey would be going after Finn after her apparent discomfort when he was caring for Rose on the Falcon.

I sorta thought the same thing. I really have no idea how they’re going to add romance in this ST, if at all. At this point, I don’t think they can; they missed that chance in TLJ to setup any chemistry. If they make anyone hook up in IX, it’s going to be forced as hell. At the same time, they keep dropping these vague romantic flings between the characters that I suppose the writers can’t ignore and will inevitably have someone together in IX, unfortunately.

Nice catch! Guess the Empire had a lot of R&D stuff the First Order resumed work on.

rewatch TFA

Does TFA explain it? I know he has both his arms golden at the end, but does the movie give us a reason?

Nope, he just does. He does say at one point that he “must get [his] proper arm” back, though.

TFA doesn’t explain it (not a very good way to reply to someone dahmage…), but on the last shot - when the Falcon leaves the Resistance planet - you can (barely) see 3PO with both his golden arms.

yep. it is clearly back in TFA, and no there is no more explanation, but it is such a silly little thing that there really shouldn’t be time spent explaining it.
