People complain that Rey can understand BB-8’s beeps and whistles, but completely ignore the fact that Han can understand the treadwell droid’s beeps and whistles in the hangar on Hoth while working on the Falcon.

Han had travelled throughout the galaxy and was like 15 years older at that point, Rey had been busy being poor while counting days on Jakku.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

The Millenium Falcon ended up on Jakku and Unkar Plutt seems to be a big name in the smuggler scene, so it’s not hard to assume that lots of different people visit Jakku and that Rey was exposed to all sorts of alien and robot languages.

Ceci n’est pas une signature.

All those days.

I figured Rey picked up an understanding of astromech “language” while working on ships for Unkar Plutt. She probably had to work with whatever droids he had at any given time, and that probably often meant getting by without a translator.

I’d legitimately like to understand what “busy being poor” means and how that precludes someone from learning other languages.

Go and ask a 19-year-old who has worked for food for over 10 years by scavenging junk and other crap in a town of less than 1000 people here on Earth and get ready to be surprised that they don’t know how to turn even a computer on let alone read or write or speak perfect grammar of their own language.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

I love how you think what you’re saying makes sense.

  • not a town
  • not on earth

That’s great, I’m happy for you.

That’s interesting because every one I’ve been to has been.

Same here.

[dumb kid rant]

I kinda miss the prequels. When they came out, I loved them. Of course, I was still in the single-digit ages and didn’t understand what competent filmmaking was, but I miss that naïve appreciation I had for them. I even kinda miss the awful, ugly VHS/DVD cover art with the gold Roman numerals behind the logo.

Pretty soon I’ll be back to accepting 6 Star Wars movies again, I’ll just have replaced the PT with TFA, R1 and TLJ. It’s better this way, but bittersweet.

[end of dumb kid rant]

Just play Lego SW. You can’t tell how terrible the source material is when everyone is mute.

Personally, though I’m now old enough to see their flaws, I accept the Prequels what they are, as part of canon and as Episodes I-III. Besides, the only one I really dislike is AotC, but at least we’ve got fanedits for that.

Btw, I like the roman numerals behind the logo.

How Star Wars was Saved in the Edit - VIDEO

Great video about the editing process of ANH and how the final film contrasts with the script and the rough cut.

(It’s also great to see one of these OT videos that actually used pre-SE footage. They even briefly mention the Despecialized edition.)

EDIT:

Seems there’s already a whole thread dedicated to this video.

Should Leia have become Queen at the end of the OT (and the ST)?

No. Queen of what? No.

IIRC, Lucas had early ideas that the entire Alderaan system was populated and united under one government. Presumably Leia would’ve become queen of the remaining planets.
