Disney to buy 20th (21st) Century Fox? (Disney has now bought them - 14 Dec '17) — Page 5

Maybe. I mean, I’d give it a chance, but I’d be worried about it turning out like last season of X-Files.

And I wasn’t a huge fan of AD season 4, either.

I disagree. I enjoyed Arrested Development coming back. There’s ways to do it if you’re smart, and Firefly was one of the smartest shows I’ve seen.

Really? I couldn’t get through the Netflix season, and I loved its original run.

I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

Yeah, apparently I’m in the minority, because most people seemed to not like it. Shrug.

While I like the idea of having all SW movies under one roof and finally incorporating the Fantastic 4 and the X-Men into the MCU, I think you guys should watch John Oliver’s video on corporate consolidation to understand why Disney buying Fox scares me. I personally don’t like the idea of one company owning such a huge chunk of the entertainment industry, plus it would leave us with only five major movie studios: Disney, Paramount, Sony, Universal and Warner Brothers.

The idea of Disney owning almost everything like it a giant Weyland-Yutani corporation is of course disconcerting. I understand that. I really do. But the vague, remote, even wish possibility of the OUT getting remastered is really clouding my judgement here.

I was a big fan of early FF run and the '60’s Hanna-Barbera animated version.

Good luck finding the HB version 😦. I understand the historical importance of the early comics, but old Stan Lee books are really hard for me to get into.

Keep in mind they’re not getting any Fox television or cable networks in this deal. All Disney gets is the studio and the film library, which is arguably the crown jewel in all of this.

Which raises other questions about what level of treatment Disney would give many Fox films, what’d happen to the archive series, etc.

Fox said no, Marvel got DD back, and we got Fan4stic.

That title is immensely offensive to the English language. I would sort of like a Heart of Darkness type documentary about what really went down on that set and in that editing room though. There’s not really a good movie in there anywhere trying to get out, but it does have a small number of interesting bits, and Trank was a really interesting choice on paper.

It may also include a proper Buffy remaster and a continuation of Firefly.

I think we’ll see a remaster of the theatrical version of THX 1138, Hong Kong action cinema getting treated well on video, the theatrical cut of The Warriors in HD, before we see either of those. Incidentally, do they also own the rights to Angel?

I liked it too, but it’s definitely different. It’s not as accessible for one thing you have to be paying super attention. I remember a rumor that they were going to re edit the season to be like the other seasons and that sounded amazing but it never happened.

If you’ve been reading up as of late, though Bob Iger stends to stay longer as Disney CEO, James Murdoch is looking to be next in line (oh, so awkward!):

But Rupert prefers that Iger stays:

That’s not all, the deal is expected to be done by Thursday:

Finally, a latest article:

Again, I so want this deal to go through because to have Star Wars in a way fully owned by Fox again, that’s all I really wanted. They were always SW’s rightful home to me.

SW’s rightful home is with the public.

Amen. Feeling anything towards a corporate entity that only wants to control the way you live your life is strange.

Could they put a Fox logo in front of TLJ before next week? 😉

You know I was thinking of that! 😄

That’d be cool wouldn’t it, if thanks to the Disney-Fox merger they announce Fox will co-distribute TLJ at the last minute? Plus, the possibility of Fox co-distributing any other future SW media (maybe even help co-produce one).

Not sure if I would burst into applause or tears if that actually happened.

With the thought that the Murdoch’s may gain some control over Disney, and the thought that Disney has enough power to basically control copyright law, I don’t think it’s something that should be taken lightly. I refuse to believe any corporation has us in their best interest, entertainment or no. Anyway, I’ll drop it.

I’m not saying drop it, but controlling the way you live your life is a bit much. I don’t see Disney forcing everyone to wear Mickey Mouse Club ears and sing It’s A Small World After All under pain of death anytime soon.

It’s more like Universal Paperclips. You start out with the intention of creating the products that people want one at a time, then eventually it becomes financially untenable to do anything but release the Hypno-Drones.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Heart of Darkness is a VERY charitable comparison. I think it would be closer to Lost Soul.

I’m obviously concerned about this due to the corporate consolidation aspects of this. I’m not sure if a better shot at the OOT is worth that.
