2024 Update:

After many years, I’m bringing this project back from the dead. This project was originally created as a way to extend King Kong with the Peter Jackson recreation of the Spider Pit scene, but overtime I realized that the film had been digitally tinkered with for the blu-ray release. To my knowledge, these alterations have not been undone since, and there is surprisingly still no word on whether we’ll ever see a 4K version of Kong.

Here’s a list of things that this project will accomplish:

  1. Removal of unnecessary “Overture” at beginning of film.
  2. Restore semi transparent tree to shot in Brontosuarus scene.
  3. Restore visible measuring gauge to clifftop scene.
  4. Reduce buried contrast on blu-ray release.
  5. Enhance audio for less muffled sound.
  6. Release as two cuts, theatrical version, and version with Spider Pit recreation inserted.

Release will be 1080p as there is no known 4K source.

I did the same fan edit a few years back, just to see how the missing (recreation) “Spider Pit” scene would play.

It messed with the film’s pacing.

Sounds great! Any chance of a purely restored version without the PJ spider pit scene?

George creates Star Wars.
Star Wars creates fans.
George destroys Star Wars.
Fans destroy George.
Fans create Star Wars.

I think that’s why it was cut in the first place.

Probably not. This whole project is more of a fan edit than a restoration. I might do it someday, but at the moment I’m fine with this. Sorry…

Shocked there’s still no UHD announcement.
Looking forward to your restoration!
