I am sad that I initially adored Rogue One and now get bored when I try to watch it.

However, both were originally designed for The Empire Strikes Back.

The top one is a weapon of war that worked pretty darn well in the fantasy setting it was used in and it did exactly what they needed it to do.
They weren’t tryin’ to scare the Rebels off the planet.
I don’t know what the bottom pic is from, but like Frink, I’m gonna guess that that’s a video game.

Violent video games are bad for you. Shame on Lucasfilm!

Upon first impression, I thought this painting

was of a Rodian chopping a droid up with a lightsaber.

No, no, no… He’s got four lightsabers, silly.
(if that’s not what’s happening there, I have no idea what is)

SPOILERS

He’s firing a blaster in rapid succession.

Just noticed that Fritz Leiber’s Fafhrd & the Gray Mouser novella Rime Isle (in which Fafhrd the barbarian loses his left hand) was first published in 1977.

Interesting…

Equally random (perhaps) is a passage from Jonathan Livingston Seagull. It was a wildly popular book in the 1970s and certainly left its mark on popular culture for decades. I’ve read it a few times through the years and below is a passage that always makes me wonder. It’s a long shot that it was an inspiration, but it was a very well known NYT best seller and widely read. It’s been referenced countless times in films, music, TV, etc

“Jonathan opened his eyes. He stood alone with the Elder on a totally different seashore - trees down to the water’s edge, twin yellow suns turning overhead”.

If there are other science fiction stories or films predating the 70s and referencing twin suns (and there may be several), I’m unaware of them.

Talos IV in the original Star Trek TOS pilot was a binary system. Spock mentions it in dialog at one point.

Good observation though!

Talos IV? There is a planet in Star Wars Legends called Telos IV. Coincidence?

Probably about as much coincidence as Tatooine being in the Arkanis Sector.

The Cybermen in the Doctor Who episode “Tomb of the Cybermen” were entombed on a planet called Telos, weren’t they? That’s from, what, 1967/68? I’d guess the SW planet name is a combined reference to DW’s Telos and ST’s Talos IV.

Remember how we always said the 2004 DVD menu’s colors looked better than the movie itself?

https://twitter.com/agraphafx/status/913108872432304128

They destroyed RMQ color scheme. I had to sadly copy it for DVD menu. They then restored that color on the film. 😦

–if you look at the 2004 menu you will see the 1997 color scheme. I rebuilt from the orig painting … but alas.

So if anyone wants to save time on coloring, the DVD menus ARE accurate! 😉

sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere , but I am watching the Gout of Empire Strikes back with the Spanish language track enabled and am wondering how they chose the voice over actors , like , what is the process for casting the characters , a certain nobility for obi-wan ? Does Yoda speak in backward syntax ? I do not speak Spanish and am curious . I wonder how much I can learn to speak it through watching the star wars movies as I have most of them memorized. Thoughts ?
