I saw Caroline Munro at Monsterpalooza last year, and Starcrash was the furthest thing from my mind. (I must have been thinking about The Golden Voyage of Sinbad at the time.) She still looks pretty darn good too!

She does look great for her age.

Stella Star in her"slave outfit" (that's what it is... and there's an ice planet too; pre-TESB, pre-ROTJ... Hmm...) is one of the major reasons that 15 was the perfect age for me to discover Starcrash.

I looked at the first seven minutes of Starcrash. The special effects were decent for their time, and the music was nice, but the dialog was painful.

edit: I admit that the MFT3K is much more watchable.

Nobody sang The Bunny Song in years…

The stop motion robots in the film are great. Definitely a Ray Harryhausen homage going on there, and references to other fantasy and sci fi. The alien judge looks like he escaped from Invaders From Mars.

I have a fondness for all these movies that jumped on the Star Wars bandwagon back then. (Battle Beyond The Stars is arguably top of the heap.) Most are endearingly goofy than bad. Even Lucas once said knew SW would be copied if it was successful, and he wanted to sit back and enjoy the copies.

I found Star Crash for the first time a few months ago, and I don't think a day has gone by that I haven't thought about how charmingly bad it is.

I tried, I really did. My son is five and I'm waiting a year for him to watch ESB to fully grasp the father-son connection. Until then I watch Star Wars with him over and over. But in my excitement, I couldn't help to pull him over to the computer screen to watch the new teaser today. It was the *REDACTED* that made me yell in my head, "What have I done?!"

I hope he turns out ok.

I guess you're right. Sorry about that.

I hope those who saw it turn out ok, too.

Last year for Christmas I gave my then 2.5 year old (now 3.5 year old) an AT-AT.  Note the clever wrapping job above.  (Don’t note the poor focus of the photo).  Since then, he’s lovingly referred to it as his ‘robot puppy’ and he plays with it on a fairly regular basis.  It was the one toy he took with him to our Thanksgiving party.

This weekend we watched Ady’s ESB Theatrical Reconstruction (which was awesome!) and I was really excited about him seeing his robot puppy larger than life on the big screen.  When they finally appeared, the other kids got really excited for him and started yelling.  At first he was silent as he watched it in awe… then he jumped up and down and cheered for the robot puppies…  and then the rebels brought down the first one.

He burst into tears.

He was quite upset.  A lot of things can make a 3.5 year old upset, so at first I wasn’t sure what had him twisted up.  But through the sobs, he told us that he didn’t like them hurting the robot puppies and it made him sad.  My oldest tried to explain to him that the robot puppies were the bad guys… but that didn’t help.

Not one bit.

It was kind of awesome.

Watched ESB:R with the fam this weekend. My now 8 year old was still really sad about the death of the Robot Puppies. For the remainder of the flick, he badmouthed Luke, called him a puppy killer, and otherwise cheered on his failures.

Great kid! Either I’m going to spank him or I’m beginning to like him!

That’s a sweet story! Reminds me of how when I was little I felt bad when the likes of Godzilla or The Creature from the Black Lagoon got hurt.

And now I want Frink to have the AT-AT’s called Robot Puppies and growl and bark in his ESB edit. 😉

I guess I never reported this one- but for some reason we had to split up to all see The Force Awakens on opening night. I took the older kids to one theatre and the wife took the youngest (the puppy lover, 6 at the time) to another theatre across town.

So the older kids and I were at the movie- watching Rey having a little lunch at her home base… and the camera pulls back and reveals the foot of a downed AT-AT… and we all looked at each other with knowing dread.

18 miles away, a little boy was crying and burrying his head in his mother’s embrace as she tried to console and quiet him, but he could not be calmed. Annoyed fans looked on as he sobbed over the loss of one of his fallen pups.

Previous? I don’t think that, what you think that.

That reminds me- have you learned to spell ‘sequel’ in the past several years since I last saw you?

Out of curiosity, have you guys ever watched this video?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCjMGOvMghY

Absolutely. It toes the line between parody and reality.

My kids have seen the OT (despecialized, of course), TFA, and Rogue One. They watch Rebels and sometimes Clone Wars. (My boy likes the clones a lot.)

Every once in a while I think about showing them the PT just because they know bits of the story. Then I remember Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith and Hayden and I just can’t do it.

We did watch the final battle between Obi-wan and Vader. That was back when my kids were 4 and 5. Even then they thought it was dumb. “Why isn’t Ob-wan picking up his friend and saving him from the lava?” “I don’t know. Ask George.”

“8yo: Star Wars is serious! Everyone is dying!”

That’s awesome! Thank you!

Not ENTIRELY on topic, but my 8 year old will be seeing Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan with me in the cinema next month (the 7 year old says ‘no’ but he is waffling a little). She’s seen bits and pieces but never from end to end. Say what you want about JJ but Beyond is getting her interested in Trek. I can’t live blog it (cinema) but I’ll be watching with an even keener eye.
