Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films (2014)

When I was a kid, I was somehow allowed to watch an R-rated ninja movie that was batshit crazy. A telephone linewoman who teaches aerobics classes is possessed by an evil spirit of a fallen ninja when coming to his aid. The spirit seeks revenge on those who killed him and uses the female instructor’s body to carry out his mission. The only way the spirit will leave the aerobic instructor’s body is through combat with another ninja.

I’m guessing it was on HBO or something, because I remember watching it over and over again. But through the years, I forgot the actual name of the movie. I halfheartedly tried to find it a few times (American Ninja? Nope.) but mostly just forgot about it.

And then a few weeks ago, I got to the We Hate Movies episode of Ninja 3: The Domination…holy shit, that’s the movie!

Still haven’t watched it again, as of yet, as it’s not on Netflix (not even via DVD). But during the WHM episode they mentioned the Cannon Films documentary, and I certainly was gonna watch that.

A lot of fun. Had no idea they were synonymous with Golan and Globus. A lot of great clips of terrible movies and fun stories of weird cousins and their weird film company.
