Not everybody needs to know the same things.

Maybe but everyone needs to like what I like.

Oh wait that was the other guy.

Yeah, but it sucks feeling alone because of a huge cultural divide.

It’s not essential information, but a basic awareness of popular culture never hurt. I’m not even a Sinatra guy, but I know who he is and what his signature tune was.
The old joke about people who think Paul McCartney’s first band was Wings is being replaced by “Paul who?”

Yeah but I’m sure you don’t know stuff that people thirty years older than you might.

Nicely played.

I know the difference between a static image and a YouTube link, son.

I was worrying about that. I was considering using a link shortner but I just used the link.

Well played, sir.

Maybe? Depends on the subject. But that’s what old movies, documentaries, and history books are for. Not to mention that internet thing the kids seem to like.
I don’t need to know about Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers to enjoy Star Wars, but it deepens my enjoyment of it.
For some people these days anything prior to 2000 might as well be a hundred years ago.

Or thirty years younger for that matter.

Like the stuff you like, don’t care what others think (or maybe introduce them to the stuff you like if you really mind).

As long as they agree with me, that’s a great attitude to take.

I feel like I should mention the fact that I expected people to join in when I started singing along. I don’t quite see how the rest of the conversation is relevant to my initial statement.

Sorry for going off on a tangent then. Still amazing they never heard of the song though.

I never sing along just because someone else expects it.

I really didn’t expect such a backlash to a surprising and embarrassing experience. I thought it would be relatable. I don’t understand why I bothered now.
