What is your response to all of the women who disagree with this decision? You can’t so readily dismiss them by flinging around accusations of sexism. Nor should you for all of the male fans who disagree with this either.

Women can sometimes be sexist too.

Romanadvoratrelundar seemed to be too long a name when she introduced herself to the Doctor. He had trouble pronouncing the full name, and quickly shortened it to “Romana”, though given the choice of being called “Romana” or “Fred” she told him to call her “Fred”.

So yes, Fred. Why not?

Oh. I had forgotten that scene.

For the sake of the series I hope you’re right. I also hope Whittaker can surprise but I doubt it. Her character on Broadchurch left a very bad impression.

Sure, it was a very stressful character. I thought she played it perfectly, though. Similarly, her Black Mirror character was absolutely awful and easy to hate. But again, performance wise she did it right, in my opinion.

No clue how she is going to play this role, but I’m hopeful that she and Chibnall will nail it.

The idea of stopping to watch a TV show because a woman is a main character is ridiculous to me.

You missing the point. This isn’t because the main character is female. This is because a character who was male

FOR OVER 50 YEARS!!!

is now suddenly female.

I’m not sure if you noticed, but a lot of things have changed from 50 years ago.

No need to yell at me also.

Its stupid and done not for quality of the show or for the fans, but to please the feminists.

Why does this character have to be man? Isn’t it about time that we had a woman one? Wasn’t it about time that we had a woman as the main character of two (!) Star Wars movies?

I’m also not sure why you have such a problem with feminists.

Without really getting into it, this post isn’t really valid because the star wars characters were new characters, not old male characters that became female.

Although from my limited understanding of dr who him becoming a woman seems plausible in the story of the show. I think both warbler and the people disagreeing with warbler are making too big a deal of it.

LOVE the new Doctor! Having never gotten past the rewrite of The Impossible Girl, I have really struggled with Capaldi’s Doctor. He was collateral damage from the Moffat rewrite & show-running of the past few seasons. I thought Pearl and Capaldi would be fresh start but it turned out to be more of the same. I haven’t watched a full episode since Last Christmas (episode).

I’ve been hoping for a female Doctor for several years and made a post on a Doctor Who board in support of it. Personally, I think it would be interesting to have the Doctor become female. It would open up new possibilities story-wise. How would other aliens treat her differently? How would other governments treat her (here, other galaxies, present, past, future)?

How would she react to situations, dangers, losses, etc now that she was female? How would past companions and characters react to her now? How would she see herself now? Some of it could be handled seriously, some could be comical, some a mixture of both.

There are also plenty of young girls who would love to have a strong, intelligent woman as a role model. It looks like they’re about to get that very thing.

I thought the reveal clip was fantastic. I love the slow, matter-of-fact walk to the TARDIS and her smile at seeing her long-time friend. Personally, as a long-time fan who has become disinterested the past few seasons, this is exactly what I wanted. A fresh start with a female Doctor.

I hope we get a few episodes where the Doctor is alone. Stories in the style of Midnight (Top Ten episode for me), Planet Of The Dead, and Waters Of Mars I want to get to know her without a bunch of distractions.

Christmas can’t get here fast enough.

All episodes will be twice as long because male characters will keep interrupting her.

I found a link with information on Barbara Benedetti’s Doctor in Ryan Johnson’s series:
http://www.eskimo.com/~rkj/doctor.html

They of course have all the low-budget trappings/kitsch of fan-made films. The best parts are probably the beginning of “Wrath of Eukor”, Michael Santo’s acting in “Pentagon West”, and “Broken Doors” which is arguably the strongest of the stories.

I would have announced a doctory male actor and a female actor so that everyone would assume she was the companion when the location photos started to leak and then do the switcheroo at Christmas and surprise everyone.
So much or the last series was ruined by premature reveals.
I also hope that Michelle Gomez is fibbing and we get a female Master and female Doctor face off a few times.
I will miss Capaldi though. He is a great actor and some of his episodes are the best the show has ever had and he is good in the not so good ones.

They’re running a business, right? I’m assuming the way they did will drive bigger ratings.

They are running a public service broadcaster by royal warrant, technically they aren’t supposed to think about running a profit but they do.
I think these leaks are more to try and turn the inevitable leaks by the tabloids into something positive but the power of surprise is tangible and if everyone found out on Christmas day the new Doctor was a woman you can bet your bottom dollar even people with very little interest in the show would tune in to watch the first episode just see what the fuss was all about.
Giving it a half a year to stew as they have some of that expectation would have worn off by the time the first episodes with the 13th Doctor start showing. BTW they should have done this when Tom Baker left as they had done the Doctor getting younger thing to the point of breaking. Maybe the Doctor should be female for the next 13 incarnations. Plenty of great actresses out there to keep her going.

I think a female doctor might have been a tougher sell in 1982 when Baker left the show.

I’m fairly certain it was a possibility tossed around back then too. Eh, wrong Baker.

It is probably for the best that they didn’t do a female Doctor back in the classic era because you know they would have done it terribly, with a pink Tardis, Sonic-Lipstick and K-9 recast as a robot Pony LOL (See awful ‘Supergirl’ movie for an example of 1980s men’s misguided attempts to create a hero for girls). Now it’ll be done right.

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

Uh, I think Supergirl existed long before the Salkind’s made the movie? Helen Slater was easy on the eyes in any case. 😃
