At the very end of a playthrough of star fox adventures for the GameCube. Played on a soft modified wiiu that plays cube games. Very underrated game. It’s like a Zelda game but more campy and with a sense of humor. Fantastic soundtrack and beautiful graphics, almost current gen level. Also looked surprisingly very good on my projector for being SD. (irritatingly enough the wiiu merely up scales the output image rather than actually rendering in hd like an emulator would. Which is a shame) it isn’t prefect and some areas are overly repetitive and some of the puzzles are just a pain instead of being challenging, but overall a very enjoyable experience. And the soundtrack sets the tone amazingly.

It isn’t, that would be 4. The best of the 3D is New Vegas, no doubt.

And unlike Skyrim you can’t do much for it in terms of modding. Especially when it comes to things like player freedom.

So I ordered a Switch from GameStop, and just received it and a copy of Zelda: Breath of the Wild two days ago.
…and BOY HOWDY is it amazing.

I ordered a bundle that came with Zelda, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and ARMS; and I took the unopened physical copies to the store and exchanged them for digital codes. It’s my thing: I really like not swapping physical media if I don’t need to and I’ve been that way for at least 15 years.

Speaking of Zelda I’ve been playing Majoras Mask (n64 version but in high resolution and with enhanced texture packs via project64) and man that game is a work of art. Really puts you in a mood. The song of healing has such a magical feeling I almost feel like my own sorrows and (mental) problems melt away when I hear it.

I love the Zelda franchise a lot, but I never liked Majora’s Mask very much compared to the other 3D Zeldas. It’s a great game in its own right, but I find it to be disturbingly dark. Being that collecting all of the masks is the only way to tell all of the story, I also feel like the game forces me to use a guide in order to play it as intended. Essentially, you have to be in the right places at the right times and in the right order, and in doing so there’s a lot of hurry-up-and-wait.

I didn’t collect any of the unnecessary masks and I still found the story fascinating. I think the darkness is why I like it so much. Some of the sequences are disturbingly mesmerizing too. I love all of the “song of healing” scenes. Makes the game feel very personal.

I don’t know this feeling cause I never had any console that generation and must’ve skipped those two Zelda games. I was rocking a PC back then instead.

Ocarina of Time is pretty well considered a masterpiece and one of the greatest games ever made, and MM is just as good a game in my opinion, just not as iconic. (Although still extremely highly regarded.)

If you have a wii I recommend looking then up on the virtual console. (I used an emulator but I still bought them on the virtual console for basically the same reason we should own the official releases before downloading edits/preservations)

Really? That’s interesting, I bought PS3 New Vegas some time ago but never played it much. Sounds like I ought to revisit it.

Intriguing since I was 8 in 1987 when The Lengend of Zelda reached the Nintendo. Played it at friends houses, had A Link to the Past for SNES. Skipped the entirety of owning a console the Fifth Generation and owned, bought myself, both a GameCube and XBOX PHAT. (That’s the OG XBOX, obviously.)
Is the Virtual Console active or not through Dolphin emulator? Usually run GameCube game though.

3, New Vegas, and 4 are far better with mods. Especially with Classic weapons and armor. Even a sweet, dunno if it’s still buggy, mod for 3 with Terminators called Cybernetic Dawn.

I’m pretty sure you can run virtual console on dolphin, but I only suggested virtual console because I thought time actually had a wii. If you’re wanting to emulate you can still buy it on virtual console for moral reasons then just use project64 to play an actual n64 rom if it doesn’t work, but it will. And if you’re dead set on using dolphin they’ve both been ported to GameCube anyway. (No enhancements straight emulation on a GameCube disc). The majoras mask one supposedly crashes on real hardware sometimes but ocarina of Time is pretty much a perfect emulation, they even changed the in game button references to correspond to the GameCube controller.

(Interestingly enough they are just plain emulators running a rom. I got my ocarina of time rom by extracting it from the GameCube disc and it works perfectly. I didn’t do that for mm cuz I heard it might crash, but in retrospect that was probably more due to the built in emulator on the collector’s edition than the rom they used. )

Okay, I’ve played plenty of Breath of the Wild by now and…wait for it… I can’t say it’s my favorite Zelda game.

It’s sooo different from the other games. I know people who complain about previous 3D Zeldas being too formulaic, but because this Zelda game so different in style, scope, and difficulty, et al., that comparing Breath of the Wild to Twilight Princess or Wind Waker is almost completely unfair. It’s almost a completely different genre of game.

I think I know which GameCube disc you’re typing about. Has both OoT and MM on it and a few other things. Haven’t had much luck with N64 emulators though. TBH last time I ran one was a couple years ago.
Only have a PC currently and zero consoles. Well, tons if I can count emulators. For YAKUZA 1 & 2 on the PCSX2 emulator it’s a bit tricky setting up the graphics. Katamari Damacy is a bit weird on it being it displays boxes around objects occasionally but for some reason, MGS 2 & 3 play fine.
BUT, for both Dolphin and PCSX2 emulators, I keep forgetting to update the versions or whichever they’re called.

Been playing (on PC obviously) Victor Vran, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl (with Complete mod), Redout, Little Nightmares, State of Decay, World to the West, and some others.

Project64 has come a long way in the past few years. If you don’t care about texture packs it can run both Zelda games “out of the box”.

In wii sports when I beat the champions at any sports, do they keep versing me against the champions?

When’s something gonna happen?

It hasn’t aged very gracefully (the shooting/combat mechanics being the greatest offender), but it’s still an amazing RPG. I would recommend getting it on PC and modding it, but it’s just as good vanilla.

With those two I’d rather play it standard before adding any texture packs. Should grab the most current revision. (Course I play emulators with a wired XBOX 360 controller. The button mapping from N64 laid out to said controller is a bit tricky for certain games.)

It’s not too bad. Just map the c buttons to the right analog stick (like the GameCube controller), z to l1 and l to l2, and f to r1 and it feels pretty natural. (That’s basically how they did it for the GameCube ports except they put o to the digital pad up because all you use it for in these games is to toggle the on screen map on or off). I actually prefer it to the original that way.

And the packs I use don’t really change the feel of the game they just make the textures more detailed.

I think I know what my issue is: I haven’t been doing much of the story. I’ve been doing as much of the main quests as I needed to, and then wandered off on a personal quest to activate all of the towers, or get enough supplies to purchase ancient armor, or [insert another random activity].

When I get into the story missions, the story and the dialogue are fantastic.

Finally finished Alien Isolation. A very good game in many ways but those awful quick time events.
The ending is a bit of a let down too.
Looks like someone too a leaf our of the Prometheus book by not actually ending the story and leaving stuff for a sequel that may never happen.
I’m away for my summer break soon so as a palette cleanser I’ve fired up the Orange Box and started playing Portal 1. The difficulty gradient on that game is a bit abrupt. It’s a load of fun still though.

Really hoping Creative Assembly makes more ALIEN series games. Already was a huge fan of their TOTAL WAR games and glad they did it right. Still don’t know if I’d want to play ALIENS: Colonial Marines.

I’ve got it but it might be too soon after battling one (…) unstobbable beast to enter into a badly received war with many squishable ones.

It was very poorly received too.

Don’t.

Far too numerous glitches and would only want to play cause Michael Biehn as Cpl. Dwayne Hicks is back. I bet Oliver Harper on his Let’s Play channel on YouTube has already covered it.
Honestly, I’d prefer if more of the Dark Horse Comics ALIENS and PREDATOR mini-series were adapted into games. Hell, I still highly consider ALIENS versus PREDATOR 2 + Primal Hunt to be excellent in its storytelling (Still have to use the 1920x1080 fix in the ini file.) It weaves the storyline through all three species too. Wish there were enhanced remakes of the first two ALIENS versus PREDATOR PC games using current graphics. But I digress.
Also want to play PREDATOR: Concrete Jungle but it’s a bit glitchy on PCSX2. Maybe the next ALIENS versus PREDATOR game might be using the Unreal 4 or id Tech 6 (?) or whichever graphics engine.
