RoboCop Laserdisc or DVD?

I’ve been planning to do a RoboCop Criterion Collection HD upscale for a while now, and I just want to know, should I use the Laserdisc version for both the audio and the video? Or should I use it just for the audio and use the DVD for the video?

Generally speaking, if a well-handled DVD transfer from the same source is available, it will look a great deal better than the equivalent laserdisc. Other opinions are available here, but IMO it’s especially true of the Criterion Robocop - a marvellous picture for a non-anamorphic transfer.

Soundwise, you do want the uncompressed PCM from the laserdisc. Terrific track.

The Criterion Collection is the only version which has an aspect ratio of 1.66:1 (every other release is 1.85:1), plus certain scenes like Murphy’s death has a different sound mix.
