I’ve never thought it a good choice to have Poe just show up during the Resistance X-Wing scene on Takodana, so I took him out. I utilized an unused scene from the trailers, rearranged other scenes that were removed when Poe flies around blasting Ties and added a bunch of sound fx to blend it together.

Very nice clip. As I already described at length over at your fanedit(.)org thread, I liked this idea when ‘Noodle_Finger’ removed both the Poe cockpit shots from his early TFA edit too - it certainly works for anyone wishing to hold off Poe’s ‘surprise’ survival a little later until Finn spots him at the rebel base.

But I’d be content to keep his initial X-wing cockpit reveal for myself, as long as that next damned ‘whooping’ shot of his is discarded…due to the fact that Finn ‘whoops’ just before too. We already know that Poe is the fancy flyer that Finn is praising, without seeing Poe ‘whooping’ straight afterwards too! Things flow and sound great without it, I reckon.

Can’t wait till this edit is done. It’s coming along nicely!

Thanks Darth,

I used this weekend to create the base to render the final version. I think I’ve exhausted my skills and abilities in creating this edit so it’s time to release. Menues, a new trailer, and formats will take a bit, but it’s nearing completion.

I’ve migrated the project file to the new vegas 13 and it seems that it transferred successfully without a hiccup. I’m looking for some final feedback about the sound in this scene:

This is a draft from some time ago, but I’m mostly wanting feedback on the falcon’s turrets. Are they acceptable to your ears or should I do some modification to the sound? Specifically, do they need more variance and movement? Thanks!

The sounds seem perfectly baked into the mix, and do not stand out as being added. However, at times it sounds like the sound effect is looped back to its beginning partway through, rapidfire. I wonder if the first ‘instance’ of the sound that gets interrupted could fade out for half a second or something, letting it trail off rather than immediately being cut off. Like a toy that makes a sound, but if you hit it again it abruptly starts over.
Other than that at a few points (heard most at 1:26).

It’s quite possible, though, that I’m imagining this and the original effects you are using are already like that. I offer it just in case it’s at all helpful.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Thanks Hal, I really appreciate you taking the time to watch/listen to it. That was the intent of the effect. I did use a single MF turret sound and chopped it up to simulate the rapid fire you speak of. I recently found a better source for the turret sound and thought if others felt it sounded to much like an add-on that I’d revisit the sfx.

I’m really wanting to just release the thing. It’s been over 7 months since I posted that draft…I remember the first week when I thought it would be done within 2 weeks. HA!

Glad you stuck with your project DigMod.

I liked a lot of the various tweaks that ‘Noodle_Finger’ came up with for his TFA edit which put the ‘Starkiller’ weapon firing AFTER Han’s death (ala Hal 9000’s current project)…but even though you haven’t gone down that route, your cutlist is definately going to replace 'Noodle_Finger’s edit as my go-to version of this movie for the foreseeable future, seeing as it includes so many additional alterations that I like.

(I’m just hoping that the THE LAST JEDI follow-up ends up introducing it’s Luke/Rey ‘island’ scenes in a way that doesn’t jar with the fact that you’ve removed their initial meeting from your TFA ending)

Thanks for your efforts.

Rendering the AVCHD 16gb file. Are people interested in a full 25gb blu ray?

I’ll be transcoding 1080p and 720p mp4 files. Would people like those 5.1 or stereo or both?

Yeah, for the time being I would be very interested to archive the most completed and polished TFA fanedits in their highest quality, yours including of course. Many changes you’ve made definitely interest me. Besides it seems very well done based on the various clips I’ve watched so far. So a 25G file would be great !

Well, it took for what seemed like forever to compelte with life and school and hiccups along the way, but it’s finally all done. Let me know if you’re interested. 😃

Thanks to everyone who has helped, inspired, or supported in any way. This one is for you 😃

I appreciate the ambition of this edit. Many of the cuts, especially in the first half, really work for me. I really like the removal of Finn firing on the Stormtroopers in the hangar, but I would have liked some of his levity to have remained in other places.

I like what you’re going for with the Kylo reveal, but there’s not enough footage of helmeted Kylo to make the Interrogation scene believable. The same with Han and Leia’s discussion about their son. I appreciate that Leia doesn’t talk about Snoke anymore (It was one of the most cringeworthy lines in the movie for me), but I don’t think the reveal can be pushed back any farther than The Abduction.

The ending also feels too abrupt. I don’t know how much of it is my expectation having watched the movie, but it just feels incomplete without the island.

All in all though, I’m very impressed by this edit even if I feel that it didn’t accomplish all of its (lofty) goals.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Thanks NeverarGreat! It was difficult to make this with the source material. I’m hoping now that I’ve got it out there that people with the technical prowess to add his helmet to the interrogation scenes will come of out the woodwork and help polish this project.

The best way to add the helmet is probably to film a replica helmet with similar lighting and insert it in the film.

Neverar and/or Ridley: do you guys have any plans to use DigMod’s (imo perfect) Rathtar scene in your edits?

Author

Thanks for the high praise Bromeo 😊

Does anyone have a nice kylo helmet that would be willing to film it in similar angles, as Sir Ridley suggested, for a v2 of this edit?

I do plan to cut Finn’s capture by the Rathtar in much the same way as Digmod, as well as Bala-Tik’s dialogue about the droid and fugitives.

However, (cue mysterious music) I have other plans for Finn’s capture. 😉

I’d love to see what you do with Bala-tik. He’s probably my least favorite character in the entire movie. I couldn’t come up with an idea on how to transition from the falcon to Snoke smoothly. He’ll be going in v2 of my edit if possible.

Any other edits you’re planning on borrowing from this one (if DigMod allows it, of course)?

I’ve fixed the variable frame rate issues I was having and also decided after some great feedback from those who held out for the release and those who have been contributing all along, to do a small revision to the edit. Audio levels for the rebuilt surround tracks during the Falcon escape and Takodana have been reworked to smooth out the mix. Also, sharpness filters have been added to some cropped scenes (Ren on the Falcon & interrogation scene) as suggested. The interrogation also received a trim to deal with the source material issues that many commented about. I won’t be addressing the hologram scan line differentiation at this time. I’ve also removed the Blu Ray option, for now. PM if you’d like to have Heir to the Force v1.1.
