You’ll have to troll harder Fink. The thing I love most about this forum is how much it bothers you that you are completely incapable of getting under my skin.

Wait a minute… you didn’t like Rogue One

Correct.

oojason said:
the whole idea was stupid

Wrong. The execution was laughably bad. It had some good ideas.

oojason said:
and thought it was a bad movie?

It was.

This is brand new information. You should let others know immediately - and in case they don’t acknowledge your views - keep on repeating it ad nauseam.

Actually, in case you don’t know how to read, my post was a compliment for Doug Chiang. The Yavin 4 sets looked authentic. Even the new designs were mostly nice looking.

as stated ‘Maybe, to keep things ‘fresh’ add a line about vaguely liking something from it - I mean, you wouldn’t want to become the forum bore now, would you?’

The fact that you can’t stand any criticism of this movie, and expect this to be a fan thread, or a safe space, and even the sight of someone who dislikes the movie stopping in to compliment one of the artists involved in making it, makes you lose your mind, shows how deeply insecure you are about the quality of the movie you profess to be so good.

lol. If you don’t like it say why, other people have managed to do so, haven’t they? Quite well and thoughtful criticisms too, no? - though they don’t inanely repeat it so much as you it seems.

‘A safe space?’ ‘a fan thread?’ ‘lose my mind’? ‘insecure about the movie I profess to be so good’? ‘can’t stand any criticism of the movie’? Nice reaching and projecting from yourself there - but as already stated above (and previously) others have critiqued it quite well, or just put over how they felt about it, about what it lacked for them, the bad or dull points/bits, what aspects disappointed them, how’d they have liked to have seen it be different, or be improved upon etc - which is, and has been, fine by me. Which nullifies your ‘facts’, as you put it, no?

Now, congratulations on becoming the forum bore - but unfortunately in achieving this goal of yours - you have forgotten that very little of what you say is of interest, to the point where its just so boring and repetitive and I just can’t be bothered to even finish what I was going to say…

I didn’t like the TFA Trailers. The more I saw, the more I was sure that this movie will suck. But I was wrong and the movie turned out to be really good (Shut up, Alderaan 😉 ). When the RO Trailers were released I got hyped. It looked like a story worth telling, really good FX, and characters I’d care about.

About two weeks before the release of the movie a friend of mine said:
'My biggest fear for Rogue One is the possibility of the worst retcon in movie history ever.
Picture this: Daddy Erso gives Jyn the plans, and with his dying breath he goes “exhaust port, I put it in as a weakness so you guys have a chance. Now go!” Just let it sink in for a minute and think about what that would possibly imply… that’s why I’m still wary when it comes to this movie. They will fuck directly with ANH.'
They can’t be that stupid, I thought. Boy, was I wrong again.
The story is okay, but not as good as it could have been. That’s what you get when you let the FX guy write the story. It’s almost as if the drummer of your band has an idea for a song, it gets mediocre at best.

The biggest problem I have with this movie are the characters. There wasn’t a single character I cared for. They were unappealing (Jyn Erso and Cassian (what’s his last name? Landoril?) more than anyone else), boring (the pilot, the blind guy and his friend) and annoying (the droid and mostly Jyn). And when the only death in your movie that touches anyone the slightest is the one of the droid, then you have a problem with character development. But maybe that’s not entirely the fault of the writer. The only good actor is Ben Mendelsohn. The rest of the cast has only one expression glued to their faces.

But WTF did they do to Vader? Again? Why had he to be in this movie anyway? To deliver… puns!?! To explain why he wears the robe on top of his chestplate in ANH (because Krennic rang him out of the bathtub five minutes before ANH starts and he wasn’t able to dress properly)? Seriously, WTF? His fight scene at the end looks badass but destroys the continuity with the OT. Vader fights slow but precisely, dammit! Let’s face it, he’s in there for fanservice only (‘I know, I should root for the rebels, but look how cool he fights. Go slaughter some more rebels, Darth!’). The better thing would have been: the plans were transmitted to the Tantive IV directly, the ship jumps to hyperspace and we cut to Vader who recieves the order to find that ship. It would have been fanservice without damaging the character any further.

The effects are top notch! Well, except for Grand Moff Toonkin, Leia, that Hentai thing and the destruction of the planet where that Hentai thing lives. The space scenes are awesome, as well as most of the locations.

The music is… meh. I was never a fan of Giacchino, but the soundtrack for RO sounds more like a parody than a SW soundtrack. Every time a SW theme seems to surface the melody changes as if Giacchino is afraid of beeing sued for copyright infringement.

Well, the movie isn’t a complete disaster, it had a few, quite enjoyable, moments (Rebels cameo, for example), but it’s by far the worst on my list of SW movies.

Wife and I watched R1 last night and we agreed it was improved this time around. Basically because we knew what the hell was going on in the first act this time, and the characters grew on us. First time through I didn’t care much at all for the main characters (although I liked K2 and the Temple Guardians) but I thought they were more interesting this time.

I don’t remember what I scored it before, probably 7/10, but I’d give it an 8 this time.

After watching it twice on Bluray, i also agree that the film grows on you. I like it more than i remembered liking it.

Author
Time

I genuinely wanted this to be the case for me.

Author
Time

Yeah, I hoped the second time I watched it I’d like it more. Wasn’t the case.

Author

I’ve liked more each time I’ve watched it. (Have seen it 6 times now, 3 of which were in the theatre) I at first complained about the huge lack of character development and the confusing first act, but then once you understand the plot there’s a lot of little things you can pick up. Particularly there are performances that have subtleties than I initially thought.

And I get a lot of people complain about the whole Jyn/Galen “stardust” heartstrings aspect, but that was actually one of my favorite parts, since I don’t think enough films go out to show the importance and power of familial connections. shrug

Author
Time

Man, you people with changing opinions of it upon rewatching. I guess the location titles have grown on me, but other than that my opinion’s unchanged. ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯

.

Author
Time

I wouldn’t say my opinion has changed that much, since I went from a 7 to an 8.

¯\ (ツ)

I liked it before and I like it now, I just understood the first act better and I liked Jyn and Cassian a little more (mostly Cassian, as I already thought Jyn was pretty good).

Author
Time

Yeah my opinion hasn’t changed that much either. It’s just that things I disliked the first time I saw it I now dislike more (though I still in general like it).

Author
Time

you must “let go of your hate” and then you can enjoy it even more!

Author
Time

No hate, just things that bugged me the first time around I’ve realized actually are rather large problems that I can’t quite ignore on repeat viewings.

Author
Time

I will say one thing that bothered me more this time around is the Mustafar scene. Vader doesn’t seem right at all, he sounds weird and he walks weird, and I hate the pun. Which is a bummer, because I like the idea of the scene (more Krennick is always welcome).

And with that said I still love the end scene. The terror on the Rebels faces is perfect.
