I quite like how the prequels were included in Rogue One. There were a few subtle callbacks like the Turbo Tank and Coruscant that didn’t really affect the story, but they were nice to see if you wanted a more cohesive/connected universe, and they were easily ignorable if you hate the prequels. Other callbacks to the era like Saw Gerrera, Bail Organa and so on all made sense within the context of the story.
I loved how they made the bigget PT era character (Saw) an insane mess who had a crappy CGI pet. Very meta.
