I think it has to do with Han thinking he can do it all by himself, and in turn, by the middle of the movie, he’ll know he can’t and that he needs a companion, somebody he just met, somebody who will stay with him until the end, Chewbacca.
I think his friends will give him that nickname, and he’ll keep it.
