The Panasonic AG-1980 is a model some of us own around here. (Me and Puggo anyway.) I got my first one in the 90’s as part of an S-VHS editing system I had at home. Built in TBC and a few other ways to tweak the video. The downside is that’s it’s much harder to find one in good shape these days, and it will cost you a bundle. I’ve owned many VCR’s over the years, and it’s simply the best for capturing tapes.

This is the seller I bought my second deck from about ten years ago, and they stand behind what they sell. When my second deck had video issues out of the box, they repaired it with no hassles.

I’d stay away from thrift store finds at all costs. Unless you can test it out to make sure it’s not a tape eating fiend.
