Hal9000 is about to release a 4.1 version very soon, might explain why previous links are dead, so be patient (and you seem to be a very patient man: only one post in the last 7 months ? Well, you carefully choose when to say something and when not to 😃).

edit: PM sent.

Yeah, I made this account quite a while ago when I first heard about these edits, and then promptly forgot about it, haha. I’m pretty pumped to see these edits in proper quality for the first time once the 4.1 editions drop; I’ve only had the pleasure of watching an older cut of Labyrinth of Evil that was briefly uploaded to YouTube before it was promptly taken down.

I think I downloaded 4.0 right before 4.1 came out, is there much difference?

JEDIT: I know it’s the wrong thread, but I have the same question for Hal’s AOTC as well…

Aside from a few tiny things that I addressed while I was at it, the difference is the audio. V4.1 fixed an audio issue affecting all prior releases, in which the left and right channels are identical, making it a weird sort of mono surround.
I didn’t want the final product for people to be V4 + muxing, so I did a minor point release.

Is it possible, that the links on fanedit are broken at the moment? The .dlc-containers only have not working links when I tried it this morning.

I’m sure that this has been addressed at some point in one of the threads for this trilogy, but I’m just having a hell of a hard time getting these to work on discs. I’ve selected “Do not change SEI and VUI data” when making the disc images as it says to in the first post, and the ISO plays fine in VLC, but when I put it on a disc the video skips and jolts around while the sound plays normally. Is there an easy fix for this?

Author

Is that a different field from “do not change SEI or VUI data”? Because I’ve got that selected and it isn’t helping.

For what it’s worth, the SEI VUI fix doesn’t do it for every player. I believe it still has an issue on my PS4, but not my PS3 or other player.

Presumably when you say the disc has an issue, you don’t mean the disc in VLC (vs. the mounted ISO in VLC being fine)?

Both the ISO and the actual disc I burned work fine in VLC. My blu-ray player is a Sony from four or five years ago that I assumed had the same guts as a PS3, but I guess not if you’re saying this works on that console.

Hello everyone! New member here. I just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU to Hal. I don’t hate the PT, but it presents a lot of problems… That you solved with editing and trimming dialogues. I really wish someone like you was at Lucasfilms at the time to help George, but the important thing is that we can watch the movies how they were supposed to be. Thank you! (If it wasn’t clear, i loved your trilogy - and ep7 too!).

I’ll be showing this to a friend of mine who is really into Star Wars and his sister. He is pretty excited to check it out and I am anticipating his reaction. He is hesitant about some of the changes I’ve mentioned since he has always watched the original but he is very open minded. He is most excited about all the deleted scenes that are being put back in 😃

Thanks Hal for this amazing fanedit! I’ll make sure to leave here what his thoughts were.

I’m uploading Version 4.2 to the usual places this afternoon. This revision addresses primarily just the opening crawls. The receding STAR WARS logo no longer aliases badly, and the crawls have been spruced up as far as their look and their content.
Is this a very minor update? Yes. However, it will be the last. This project is baked and mastered in 1080p, with several scenes and components that are limited to 480p. Even if better quality version of the prequels are unveiled down the road, the current quality level would still be preferable for this project, due to the standard definition material used. As I recall my mindset and ambition three and a half years ago beginning on this project, I am extremely happy with the final product, and so I am setting it down for good.

Version 4.2, which I’m uploading now, is the FINAL release of this prequel fan edit project. I’m promising you all as well as myself! Thanks again to everyone who contributed, which is a very large group of fine people. Since FanEdit.info often takes a while to update its listings, those who want access to the DLC files may PM me, and I will provide links once they are uploaded.

I did change the crawl a little. Final version reads:

Episode I
CLOAK OF DECEPTION
Mired by greed and corruption, the Republic is in decay. After centuries of peace under the guardianship of the Jedi order, a menace lurks in the shadows of the galaxy.

Attempting to capitalize on the government’s complacency, the nefarious TRADE FEDERATION has surrounded the small planet of Naboo with a blockade of deadly warships.

With the newly crowned Queen desperate for help, the Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Knights to settle the conflict. . . .

I was glad to find a way to have something about the Republic being in decay AND a ‘menace’ lurking. The “two Jedi Knights” part of the final paragraph never bothered me. It’s not technically correct, but it gets the point across. Specifying “a Jedi Master and his Padawan learner” or something similar would be too wordy, especially if this is Episode 1 and I’ve already thrown “Jedi order,” “Republic,” “Trade Federation,” and “Supreme Chancellor” at you.

The final version, V4.2 was released recently. Please ensure you are working on that version, as older ones have been let go.
If you need further help, PM me please.

Has anyone actually watched Labyrinth Of Evil with the included Backstroke Of The West subtitles? If so, how was it for you? Sort of like the “irrelevant subtitles from Henry VIII on the Holy Grail DVD”?
