Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows part 2 open matte broadcast (Released) — Page 2

Digital IMAX is actually 1.89:1 (not 16:9/1.78:1). Even then, that aspect ratio is taller than 2.39:1. They could’ve used a larger IMAX framing.

I think they show all of them in open matte on tv I think freeform (new name for abc family) does too if you don’t mind the watermark that also only show the extended versions and only the first 2 extended versions came out on DVD and blu ray so the rest are only found on tv broadcasts definitely worth capturing imo

Hi, for HP1 and 2 (I know this topic is for HP7/8), anyone have 4X3 open matte TV captures of the extended versions, preferably pure digital captures W/O/C. Thanks.

Hello again everyone,

as some of you might remember, I started a thread here some time ago, about my own Extended Cuts of HP2/4/5/6. Now that I’ve finished those, and know how difficult some of those extensions were, I would love to see how the professionals solved some of these problems.
So that’s why I would like to see the ABC Family Versions, but since I’m from the Netherlands, I can’t. Of course I own all the original (Ultimate Edition) Blu-ray’s, so I already have the official Extended Versions of HP1/2. But is there anyone here who captured the rest from ABC Family/Freeform and would be willing to help me get a copy of those?

Thanks in advance!

Freddy

Back on topic - Harry Potter and open matte…

1 - Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) - Open Matte HDTV, available
2 - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) - Open Matte HDTV, available
3 - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) - Pan&Scan HDTV, available
4 - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) - Open Matte HDTV, available
5 - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) - Open Matte WEBdl, available
6 - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) - unsure, probably exists as other previous parts were broadcasted
7 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010) - almost entirely cropped (NOVA HD) available
8 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011) - Open Matte/Cropped HDTV (HBO US/Новий Канал UA/NOVA HD) available

(EDIT: comparison BD/HDTV for ep. 3: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/209721)

So far, 1,2,4,5,6 are actually open matte, 3 is pan&scan (with a tiny bit more lines top and bottom), 8 are partly open matte and partly cropped; 7 seems to have only the animation open matte, the rest is cropped; 6 seems to be impossible to find, even if it’s hard to believe that it’s the only one without a complete (or partial) open matte version…

It would be nice to see the open-matte animation from HP DH Part 1 preserved.

I see. But, the channel logo obscures the image badly. We need to find one without a logo and in HD.

Vouka, can you provide screens for the animation scene from this OM version?

Author

Yep, I finished to analyze roughly ep.7, and indeed there are (very few) shots which adds more image on top and bottom.

That version would be of great help, to remove the logo; I have obtained good results, but still not perfect, and, with that version, most probably, I’ll find the way to phase out completely what remains of the logo.

Thanks, Vouka,

Andrea, the added grain definitely makes the image look sharper. However, I would advise you to use real 35mm film grain scans, like Crumblepop 35mm grain. This grain pattern looks a bit like noise. We need only those scenes where the open matte gains good amt of info at the vertical space. Then we could construct an IMAX version.

Any action-oriented scenes look open-matte in this, like the battle in the sky with death eaters early in the film?

Actually, the grain plate is real 35mm…

It seems that, apart that animation that lasts around 3.5 minutes, there are only few shots here and here… so, it’s possible to get an all widescreen + animation open matte, or all cropped except animation open matte…

Ok. Can you provide stll frames of those scattered open-matte shots, as per your convenience of course. There’s no rush.

For the animation, would love to see the entire uncompressed clip that you recomposed.

Basically there are just few brief shots - maybe five or six through the whole movie - apart the animation, which is all open matte; they are the same seen in Vouka’s screenshots:

At least it’s interesting to see that color grading is different - it’s the only difference I spotted so far, apart ep.8 BD/Novy Kanal.

I searched on youtube for that animation clip, and I’ve found a couple of clips, really bad quality, that were indeed full screen 1.33:1; I wonder where they are from, as the source could be used to phase out the logo completely…

Great! A link to the 4:3 animation, please. The colour on the Blu-ray looks better to me.

Hey Guys, I Have Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (Full Movie) in FULL HD 1080p and in AAC 5.1ch 512 kbps Without any logo or masked logo (Open Matte/Pan&Scan WEB-DL version) 😉 it have 50GB! It was me, who captured this version. I think it’s the same version that HBO broadcasted, but no logo!

I will find a way to put it to download…

Take a look here: https://postimg.org/image/e439irxwl/

Sorry my english, I’m from Brazil…

Wow. Great. But, could you reduce the size, by half would do (25 GB). 50Gb is huge. Don’t worry about English. As long as you can communicate your intent, it’s fine.

Hello erminhohp2011, welcome aboard!

It seems it’s a great source! I’ve just send you a PM.

Out of curiosity, do you have captured also Part 1, or you can capture it?
What’s about other chapters?

Thanks for your work.

That’s great!

I’m sure that merging your capture, and the one I have, we could get the best of both world, and surely better than the single source!

Andrea, why do you need to merge captures? This in itself is the best possible quality source of a WEB-DL. Plus this is 1080p. Do you have another 1080p source?

Yes, of course! This capture is great, but the one I have is very good, too; merging them would lead to delete eventual noise, while reveal some details; of course, it should be tested, as it not happen all the time. But, until now, I’ve seen that, even with seemlingly perfect sources, when merged with another (or other two, that’s even better), the quality usually improves - from a bit to a lot.
