I’m pretty sure when GL sold LucasFilm to the House of the Mouse there were stipulations to the original trilogy. Like it or not the current iteration is his “definitive version” of the Saga and Disney can’t mess with it / release HD editions of the Original Trilogy.
I assume you’re just describing a hunch, but I don’t think I’ve seen any evidence that would suggest one way or the other. It would be a bizarre business deal, if so, but not impossible.
What I would be interested in knowing is if, now that Disney owns Star Wars, if that means that George can no longer mess with it either.
That would be the default assumption, unless we see evidence otherwise.
