That’s why I say the in-story explanation helps. You’re right, he isn’t like Vader at all. In fact, he’s a weak imitation (in-story and out). In the aesthetic of the film real-world, he’s used as a Vader\Maul type marketing image. That puts me off him. In the film, his best moments are when he’s sans mask one on one with people. That part I think is done well.
