Info Wanted: Call for experts! Machete marathon... Q2/HAL? TPM?

Hi guys,
This is my first post. Kudos to every Editor and everyone involved in the board/projects!

Now to the point.
Me and a friend of mine want to watch the whole shebang, TPM and VII included.
Yes, we gonna cry blood and commit Seppuku afterwards, but w/e.

So, the first doubts arise with TPM placement.
Introductory or full prequel abomination voyage inbetween OT?

Basically like this:

A) I > IV > V > II > III > VI > VII
OR
B) IV > V > I > II > III > VI > VII

And the second doubt is which fan edit of PT to go for. I do like both Q2 and HAL but never watched them in machete, not even the full PT as a whole, but always with some days of pause between episodes (YKWIM).

Q2 and HAL are my preferred and I gonna stick to them. Please do not advice on other edits.

So, which one do you guys think would be best for the “Machete + TPM A/B” order? Full Q2 or full HAL?

Or mix them up? I do love Q2 TPM more, but HAL ROTS delivers a better Anakin/Vader transformation overall. AOTC it’s a 50/50 for me.
So maybe Q2 TPM as introductory (A order) and HAL for the rest?

Thanks a lot in advance guys, I’m asking mainly because this friend of mine never saw a fan edit of the PT and I want him to have the best experience possible.

I would go with B. Put the prequel trilogy all together. If you like Q2, then do that. Personally, I would do all Hal’s. His Phantom Menace feels like not only an improved version but a version that still feels like a complete movie.

Yeah, maybe a full HAL would be the best (with B). Mainly 'cause Q2 do not really sit well as a whole in the “machete”.

Thanks. Still waiting more opinions.

As best I can remember, Q2’s prequel edits have the goal of preserving the Vader reveal, which is inconsequential when your doing machete order. Good luck! I hope you enjoy your marathon 😃

I’ve used the order of IV, V, I, II, III, VI with a newcomer before and I thought it worked very well.
It’s not machete order, and I called it ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ order, because it’s how he would have wanted it. (And learning Luke and Leia’s relationship in Ep3 is more dramatic than in ROTJ.)
You’re right that Q2’s edits are designed to function as precursors to watching the OT without giving away the two big reveals. My edit of Ep1 also happens to remove Jabba’s little cameo, preserving that reveal as well. (I don’t remember whether Q2’s did as well.)

Option B preserves Ben Kenobi’s lies and is a great way to experience the OT and PT from Luke’s POV and frame the PT within the OT. You don’t have to begin or end (if stopping at ROTJ, anyway, which isn’t really a problem now) with a terrible movie. Putting the prequels between V and VI lets VI benefit from the backdrop of the prequels, being the only OT film that arguably does so. And going forward, you get to go from ROTJ into TFA. You do take a swan dive in terms of quality jumping from ESB to Ep1.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Yes he is: he’s not going to use R1, so he has removed one movie. Updated Machete Order !

Any movie you watch after ESB is likely to be a swan dive 😃

@darthrush Guess you’re right, thanks bro.
@Hal 9000 Wow, HAL! Thanks for your answer man, you totally convinced me. I’ll go with B and your edits for this ordeal. After all the “machete” objective is exactly watching the saga as a Luke story and with your edits I think my friend will be blown away. Man I’m jealous of him, watching PT edit in a marathon like this for the first time will be awesome. Kudos!
@TV’s Frink Staph! Stahp.
@MalàStrana R1? Whats that!? Oh, you mean the new let’s make some more money out of the franchise disney movie. Okay.

It’s your thread, so if you want to eat steak and call yourself a vegetarian, or make up words like “staph” or “stahp,” I guess that’s your call. I won’t say another word on the subject.

JEDIT: “Staph” is obviously a word but not in the way you used it.

Come on man, it’s just a pun. Google them words, you’ll understand. Anyway, I exaggerated and I’m sorry. But hey, you do get that you were pretty off-topic with your quibble. Right? It’s self explanatory that if in this board someone writes about machete, and whatnot, he knows it’s meaning. And if the meaning itself is not the original one but a twisted for a purpose one, well, f it.

On topic, there’s some viewing order thoughts here (specifically here) and here.

Thanks, gonna read, but I’ll go with B order. I’ve seen the marathon in release order and chronological order (both unsatisfactory) but never the PT inbetween and never with edited versions, so I basically want to make my friend cry of joy.

Are you thinking about adding the animated Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars into the mix ? His 2 hours cartoon basically contains everything that was necessary for a prequel film (some Clone Wars battles; powerful antagonists - Ventress, Grievous -; Ben and Anakin best pal; Anakin being knighted; the journey to look oneself in the mirror; you even get a Jedi building her lightsaber and badass Jedi knights; the only missing thing would be an Anakin and Owen Lars scene).
