Think of the galaxy as if it were more like hundreds of years ago in some ways. You couldn’t contact someone so far away, and not every map would contain the same information.
It’s the same reason R2-D2 and C-3PO exist when most of their jobs could be solved with an advanced, duked-out smart phone.
