Everything in the new clip is spectacular except that Vader doesn’t look at Admiral Piett anymore which is a shame 😦

I posted this in reply to someone on facebook, just after i posted the clip.

Peter, you have to remember that most of the videos i post are never the final version. I don’t want to spoil the release by showing everything in it’s final stage

So, he does still look at Piette. 😉

Yay!

For me the ultimate extra, either for this or for ROTJ:R would be a short film by Ady about how to get something of this nature done.
Covering the pitfalls, the lucky breaks, the lessons learned the techniques in practice, the team work etc
There are so many films that could benefit from this sort of redressing.
The Alien films loom heavily in my mind here that it would be inspirational for other editors to make a short about the making of revisited.
I love Harmy’s breakdown of the sources of his reconstructions, something of that length and scope would be ideal.

Having checked with adywan that it was something that he definately wasn’t including anymore, I’ve now got a chance to go into something I originally removed from my previous post above -

Regarding his recent clip preview, you’ll recall I described how adywan has gone on to alter his already excellent improvements for his earlier ‘workprint’ versions of the ‘Piett in the control room’ shot and ‘Vader stepping down into the control room’ shot. Well, another one that he has improved on compared to his ‘workprint’ version, is where Vader is seen walking towards the windows at the front of the bridge.

He originally put a lot of work into a ‘composite’ shot which re-used the actors from the AVENGER stardestroyer’s ‘pit crew’, as seen in this early preview pic of the sequence - orig02.deviantart.net/68ea/f/2009/173/1/1/2009_01_29_rough_sequence_by_swremixed.jpg

Now I was originally a big fan of this planned new (flipped) shot, and adywan had actually tweaked it further for his ‘workprint’ - he removed some of the ‘pit crew’ actors so that there were only 2 showing in the foreground, so that it wouldn’t seem such a re-use of the earlier footage.

However, I’m glad that he decided to discard this shot altogether in the end, and replace it with his latest shot of Vader walking towards the front of the bridge instead…as it now means that there are NO more AVENGER stardestroyer ‘pit crew’ actors seen onboard the EXECUTOR whatsoever! 😃

Great info ImperialFighter, many thanks.
The view of Vader from the pit does look cool though.

Just a quick update.

Here’s the Wampa face just after it came out the mold. Its just temporarily added onto the inner skull for the purpose of these pics, so its not properly fitted at this stage. A bit of cleaning up work to do and the onto making the inner mouth, ears and painting, before onto the tedious task of adding the fur. The horns are done & ready for the molding process and will be added just prior to the fur stage. Ignore what looks like a rip under the mouth. that’s actually the edge of the mask now as the design of the costume has changed slightly.
You can get an idea of the size of the head compared to a human head as you can just about make out the mannequin head inside the mouth.

Looks wonderful! The new wampa is what I’ve been looking forward to the most in this edit.

Really ? This is such a great little look, where anything can happen (do I kill him ? do I give a **** about killing him ? well, never mind…), quite surprised it got unnoticed by so many fans. Glad Ady keeps it (removing it would have been a deal-breaker… well, not really but still a little disappointment).

It’s good to see you back on the forums Ady. Anyway, the new clip was top notch. The new Cg falcon and Tie shots were great. Is the Animator going to contribute to the next edit?

Can’t say much about the wampa sculpt as it’s still in it’s beginning stages. Is this eventually going to be a complete suit or is is just going to be the head only for the inserts?

Doubleofive i have a question that might be a minor nitpick but when vader has his helmet of in empire the flesh you see has different colors and wounds. But and i might be wrong but in return of the jedi the back of his head looks different. Is there anything that can be done about that?

If this even is an issue, it would probably be easier to fix in ROTJ where you only see a bit of the back of his head and it’s nearly stationary, dark and out of focus.

Yeah, something like this.

Long-time lurker popping into say you kick imperial hiney and I can almost believe I have been paying attention to the progress of this fan edit for 8 years. The anticipation is tangible and quite fun to bounce on like a trampoline.

Cheers.

At the risk of delaying the project, a possible solution to the Emperor’s “Luke Skywalker” line may have surfaced.

Well i’m not too bothered about the Emperor calling him Young Skywalker in ESB:R, because this is the way he addresses him in ROTJ, so it fits in with the character. But, if this software ends up working the way they say it will, this could be a godsend for the prequel edits.
