awesome updates to the thread oojason ! A much needed distraction from all the crap going on in the world right now
Thanks dude , I’ll check out those threads and inquire !
I know it may seem odd to have a full-screen edit , and I always advocate for preserving the original intended cinematography, but I sometimes like to watch full screen dvds on my projector really big . I know the sides get cropped off but the image is also zoomed closer , making actors etc appear larger , which I think makes for as close to an "imax " like presentation as one can get at home . Plus I’ve been experimenting with overlays in vlc which work in interesting ways with 4x3 content. If anyone knows of such a project out there , or in the works , please let me know
I am a complete novice when it comes to this sort of thing , but VLC media player has a deinterlace function that can be recorded from the player ,I used it while watching an early dvd release of BladeRunner ,which was sourced from a laserdisc release and could see the interlacing artifacts on it ,so I applied deinterlace in VLC and it worked well , I could no longer see the artifacts in the video . VLC is a free open source media player and a powerful tool that can play just about any video file you throw at it .Here are the steps to deinerlace and record on it…
Open the video in VLC.
Apply the deinterlacing filter. You can find this in the video settings.
Go to “View” -> “Options” (or “Tools” -> “Options” depending on your VLC version).
In the “Output” section, choose your desired recording format and location.
Click the “Record” button (usually a red square).
The video will be recorded with the deinterlacing filter applied.
I hope this helps in some way .
I wish more people would respond to the how to requests in this forum .Over the past year or so I’ve seen 0 replies to a lot of questions asked here. There used to be a lot more engagement ,and that’s a shame , I find many of the topics interesting to read . Anyway , good luck with your project !

I have a new order to recommend: the Spoiler Order, one that preserves the famous “twists” of the franchise for longer than either the Release Order or the Machete Order.I am curious to hear others opinions on this…
I watched a YouTube video recently that made a good case for watching chronological vs release order. Almost everyone knows of the famous “I am your father” line at this point, even non-fans, which works against the biggest reason to suggest release order.
I just want to be clear , this is misquoting me a few posts above. If you go back and look at my full post , you will see that I only said I may have to try watching this order and was curious what others think of the video that I linked there , which I did not make , and merely stated the information from the video. I went back and put quotation marks around the parts of the video description I used in my post for clarity .

sorry ,was commenting on wrong post here
Episode 8 of season 2 chilled me to my core . Damn good show !
Thank You so much ! I had a chance to view the HD lightyears . It’s fantastic !!! This movie has never looked and sounded better ! I was floored by the detail and texture in the painted backgrounds and environments as well as the clarity of the characters faces . It still looks good on the lower resolution physical media copy I have , but this is on another level ! This masterpiece really shines here . The sound quality has never been more immersive . I listened on a decent pair of Panasonic headphones and it sounded like a virtual 5.1 system over basic stereo headphones ! I wish more movies on home media had this kind of sound mixing and processing . Just proves to me that it can be done and one wouldn’t need to invest in expensive recievers , have to upgrade their tv or use any apps to enjoy it . If you or anyone else on these forums knows of otther movies ,animated or live action , that have this level of sound design /audio processing , please point me in that direction .
this sounds fantastic . The U.S. version of Light Years is one of my favorite movies and has one of the most immersive soundtracks/soundscapes I have ever heard. I sent a pm request to the OP . Really want to see this in HD
Awesome and on point review of the first 3 episodes of this season …https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQh1tu-yHa0
I had a chance to watch the ANH of this . I always wondered how AI software would look used on these . Pretty impressive overall , though a bit too smooth looking and seems to strip away a lot of texture and flatten it out . I’ve noticed even Youtube seems to be doing this with almost every video I watch lately . I think adding some “realistic” grain over the top of it post process would help with it and would like to see another pass at this . Was grateful to see this project though .
Yeah , it would be awesome if those Imax reels ever surfaced or were scanned and released publically ,if only for the implications of fan edits alone ! Imagine how cool those would be . I have the same hopes for the Imax cut of Attack Of The Clones .I saw it at the Imax theater at Navy Pier in Chicago in November of 2002 and it was an awesome experience . Best cut of the movie I have ever seen by far .
I hope this lights a fire under Lucasfilm/Disney’s ass to finally release the unaltered OT officially . One thing I have been seeing posted a lot about this by various sites online and social media that is annoying though ,is a lot of them keep using headlines like . " first time its been shown in 48 years ,or half a century etc " …which is simply not true .
I loved the 3 epidode opener of season 2 and I think this show is ,indeed , some of the best Star Wars anything . For the most part , grounded and realistic , reflective of our own world and thought provoking ,at times uncomfortable ,but I think that is by design . My first thoughts after watching were…Ho Lee Shit ! They saw our future ,especially seeing as prduction of this season began in November of 2022 !
I wondered what the Gout would look like ran through AI software . Pretty neat to see . I blew these shots up on my screen and I can see what he meant about the vertical artifacts . I noticed them the most on the jagged edges on Vader’s helmet , his shuttle in RoTj and the credits . I wonder how noticeable they are in motion ? I’ve also been wondering how the ITV London Vhs 1982 broadcast preservation would look through something like Topaz AI . I can’t afford the software and my computer isn’t powerful enough to handle it anyway , but would love to see someone on here have a go at it !
Didn’t know where to put this , but seems appropriate as this video touches upon Project 4K77 as well as other fan restorations that may have been made by users of this forum . Sure , he tried to sugar coat it for the fan restorationists , while at the same time calling them " amateuers " I for one pushed back in defense of the fan restorationists in the comments . ( I go by DarkEmpire37 on Youtube) . I am curious to hear this communities thoughts on this video , especially those of you who had a hand in creating these projects …https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQwQRFLFDd8
screams in the void: I can confirm that the colors are much more lifelike in the transmission of PAL recordings than their NTSC counterparts. The same can be said for the even rarer SECAM recordings. NTSC, perhaps, does not withstand multi-generational losses as well as most PAL standard recordings. There are plenty of examples of these on YT.
Check it Hungarian Christmas day 1984 premiere colors. 😃
ps: The only drawback is the SECAM noise band, due to the 2nd generation copy.
Indeed they are , I did a deep dive reading further into PAL vs NTSC on Wikipedia and elsewhere and PAL had more resolution as well due to more scan lines etc . What impressed me the most about the recording was its film like quality. I’m in the same camp as those who have speculated that it was taken directly from a 16mm or 35mm source . It looks to me almost like a low resolution 4k77 in regards to the texture and color grading . I’m not sure , but the reel change markers /cigarette burns in the recording also look different to me than scans of other prints I have seen , but that could be due to the 4x3 blow up . I was also fascinated by how the Crawl appears in its original aspect ratio , but squeezed into a 4x3 frame as most officially released 4x3 versions zoomed in on it , as well as the choice they made on Luke’s macrobinocular shot when the Tusken raider comes into view . I have not seen that in any other 4x3 version , though I have seen the squeezed shot in the original HBO airings . Thanks for the response and I will look into that Hungaian Christmas day 1984 premiere colors video you mentioned .
Thank you for making this available. As soon as I’m able to get the settings right on my browser to let me play it , I will leave a review
Finally had a chance to watch some of the preservation of the October 1982 broadcast of Star Wars on ITV and I am absolutely blown away by the luminous colors . Simply beautiful ! Even with the tracking issues and slight PAL speedup of the audio , I’m amazed by the quality compared to the NTSC broadcasts we got here in the states . Not sure who initiated and made the final transfer /project a reality , but thank you ! This was a real treat !
“The special editions were not that bad, but people insult them because after the release of the VHS/LaserDisc/DVD of the 1997 Special Edition”
Well ,the 97 Special Edition was never released on DVD , but even further changes were made to the movies in 2004 for the DVD debut of the OT , and then again in 2011 for the blu ray , and again in 2019 for D+
" people realised the original versions will never be re-released again."…you got that right , its the reason this here site exists .
and the 2006 DVDs were a slap in the face
The Special editon was released on DVD, but not many have the DVDs of them.
^ Ummm…no . The 1997 Special editions were never officially released on DVD .There are bootlegs floating around out there that look like official product , but they are just that…bootlegs , mostly using the 97 special edition laser discs as a source .

Yes , First mentioned by name in the original Marvel comics series issue 68 from 1983, both the planet and the super commandoes . Also heavily featured in the Tales Of The Jedi comics of the 90s , particularly The Sith War .Also , in the 1980 novelization of The Empire Strikes Back , Boba Fett is described as wearing the armor of a group of evil warriors that were defeated by the Jedi Knights during the Clone Wars
The recording you are talking about was from the Sci Fi channel when they first aired the wide screen version of the OT . It was hosted by Billy Dee Williams in 1995 , a few years earlier in 1993 , Carrie Fisher hosted the first marathon of all 3 movies in full screen on the channel . This site hasn’t been updated since 2012 , but there is a contact email at the bottom of the page which may or may not work . Good resource for what it contained though …http://noneinc.com/SWSFCFBDW/swsfcfbdw-faq.html
There are also snippets of these hosting segments on youtube .
Also , there are people out there who have kept recordings for decades , a couple years ago , I got one off ebay that was a VHS recording from HBO in 1987 , from the same month they first showed Return Of The Jedi . It also had Police Academy 2 and a few episodes of The Hitcher on it , as well as some HBO promos for that month’s offerings between shows . The person who had it started the recording at the 20th century fox fanfare , so sadly the HBO intro , feature presentation and ratings card didn’t get recorded at the start but are on there for Police Academy 2 . The image quality is not so great but is passable on a CRT TV . The audio is very low volume on it though . Probably recorded in long play mode . One interesting thing to note is that the pan and scan cropping on Jedi is a bit different to other full screen vhs home video releases I have seen , at least in the opening shot . In this HBO airing , the camera pans left to show the second Death Star when it is first seen .
another thing that may be useful is to look for VHS tapes , " sold as blanks " on places like EBAY etc . A lot of them have multiple movies and shows per tape , but its a bit of a crap shoot . I tend to zoom in on the tape labels and would contact the seller for more information .
Thamks BoShhek , I’ll give that section another read !
They have claimed a stop motion creature would replace the actor in 1977, but Phil Tippet didn’t get instruction on designing Jabba as a ‘Sidney Greenstreet’ type character until later…
Yeah , and there’s something suspect about the whole narrative . In the 1983 Documentary , From Star Wars to Jedi The Making A Saga , they go over it and show a part of the scene as originally shot with Decan Mullholland and then show a storyboard of what the intended creature effect of Jabba was supposedly going to look like , superimposed over the human figure on the storyboard . Giving the impression that it was an archival piece of artwork from the time of the shooting of the original film , except if you look closely , you can see what appears to be Salacious Crumb on the ground next to Jabba ! The little guy was never talked about , seen ,or mentioned until 1983.
