Goodmusician,

I enjoyed where you are going with the Yoda/Qui-Gon meditation scene. I think it is very effective to combine the inclusion of Qui-Gon with Yoda's understanding of the prophecy. I especially liked how Yoda could barely just reach far enough into the future to just catch a glimpse of the adult Luke Skywalker, almost on the "fringes" of Yoda's ability to see the future. Very interesting concept..especially in light of Yoda talking with Luke in ESB about seeing the future, nice to get a glimpse of Yoda actually doing so. Great work!!

I'm going to have to disagree with this opinion. It's very jarring to cut to. That goes with all the clips actually; it might lend better to dissolve between them, seeming like a vision more than Yoda watching a movie in his mind. This also goes with continuously cutting back out to Yoda. With the dream shots we've seen before it's easily understood that we're seeing what Yoda sees. Cutting in and out is too much (aside frome maybe the first instance). Also, we see Bail enter way too soon. Actually we don't need to see him enter even. Just have the images be building, up to the Vader arm clawing up, then Bail's interuption breaks the vision.

Small other comment: While acceptable, the first 3 visions resemble a trailer more than a vision pertaining to the audio. Maybe visions of young Ani? The clones have nothing to do with the prophecy of the Chosen One.

Idea & Info: for a Spider-Man 3 edit...
Time
Mojo, coming out of the theatre I would have agreed with you. However, the more I thought about it I think more Sandman and less/no Venom is what the movie needs. Without his revenge on Sandman, there's less of a viable reason why Peter would feed off the symbiote's power.

However, that being said, given what we have to work with I think the only option is to take out Sandman - at least until we get an extended DVD. I'm going to begin exploring this route soon I think.

King Kong: The Spence Edit (Released)
Time
I had started to do an edit of this monster of a film as well back at the start of the year using a bootleg video for stratch. Problem is, now I doubt that I can easily replace my footage with the DVD data. However, I also used some of the same methods you listed to trim the movie down including the useless Jimmy subplot, shortened boat sequences, etc.

I was surprised though to hear you only were able to knock it down to 2:40 or so (the exact time escapes me). My first cut, before I had to move and temporarily abandonded the thought of trying to swap footage, I was able to knock down to 2;16. I relentlessly trimmed down all dinosaur sequences (what 3 t-rexes? i only saw one) and Kong and Ann's date in NYC.

So naturally I'm looking forward to seeing your edit to take notes and apply them to my own if I ever get back to it.

And if anyone here knows a way to easily replace footage in Adobe Premiere Pro (footage with different timecodes/starting points, and possibly aspect ratios) lemme know.

Idea: a 2005 King Kong edit...
Time
Well after a short recess in editing, I finished my first re-cut of this self-proclaimed epic. Starting at 3 hours, I've so far trimmed it down to 2;16. I've yet to watch it completely through though so some may have to be reinserted due to pacing, and seeing it all at once may reveal even more I can take out.

Some highlights from the chopping block include: Heavily shortening the boat crash, cutting away from most of the slow-motion/low framerate camera work, the weird love story between Mr. Hayes and Jimmy, the brontosaurus chase, all but one T rex encounter, the over the top parts of the big pit scene, and Kong and Ann's date in NYC.
