I just found out about Carrie as I was working on the scene with her rallying the snowspeeder troops on Hoth, trying to ensure the light in her eyes was not lost.

Devastated.

Unexpected this is… And unfortunate 😦

Oh, and i’m glad everything worked out for you Poita, and I hope everyone else out there
has been safe for the holidays! 😃

Info Wanted: What Is The Best Theatrical Version of Each Star Wars Movie?

No, synced is a timing thing. All GOUT-synced audio will work with any GOUT-synced video, so people’s lips match up with the words coming out of their mouths, etc. Silver Screen isn’t GOUT-synced, so you are a little more limited in your audio options (or you add dark frames for the missing video to make it GOUT-synced, either way).

Version 1.6 of the SSE is gout-synced though!

Err… I somehow missed the entire 2nd page of the thread, didn’t realize it had already been
adressed. Sorry 😉

My two cents would be to get the DE Reel 2 cleaned next, assuming it will be crucial in subbing the latter half of the British reel, which is damaged. I know you can scan it now as it is, but seeing as it’s vital, you might as well treat it as the next part of the preservation.
I’m sure if it came to reel 6 of the Brit print and funds had run out, the community would come to the rescue 😉

Clearly the way to go!

A little donation is coming your way Poita 😃

Two new videos were posted in the last 24 hours, one on some of the new techniques we’re using to clean the film:

Thanks for the detailed info about the sources Williarob! Got somewhat confused for a moment before watching it even though I do my best to keep track of this project.

Wish I could contribute to the final result in some way but I’ll just leave it to the pro’s 😉

I’m thinking I might abandon the DNR version. I’m just not liking it as much as I thought I would. Would anybody here be too upset? If anybody needs to use scenes for Despecialization, it will be easy enough for them to add the DNR to the shots they need to mix with the blu-ray…

My 2 cents: I wouldn’t mind if the DNR version was dropped. Grain-lover here 😉 Still I wouldn’t mind a (very) light reduction of the grain in the effect shots to make the
whole thing more coherent. But now I’m almost steppin in revisionism territory so I’d say
a 1080P/No DNR of this would be my definitive version 😃

The white levels turned out really good in the latest regrade. Lots of fine details in the “boxes” walls and the
hint-o-mint looks spot-on to me 😃

Perhaps 3PO looks just a tiny bit more “coppery” in the last shot compared to the so called Warmer regrades
found on page 7? Then AGAIN, this ol’ monitor of mine isn’t exactly what you’d call reference equipment.

Keep up the good work!

It is striking me as almost a little harsher (hard to put my finger on a good descriptive word…). I dunno, maybe there’s too much green/yellow removed now.

Perhaps if the brightness adjustment age described were applied, it might look more inviting.

I will add some of it back, as it’s missing some warmth, and looking too neutral. The brightess adjustment would make it look too much like the bluray, which is just not what the 70s prints indicate it should look like.

Ah, that’s the best way to descibe it; it needed a bit more 70s! 😉
Looking forward to the next set of screen-grabs!

Perhaps it now looks a bit to bright and lacks some warmth from the screenshots posted in page 3.
On the other hand, I’m no fan of yellow/green tints either (though the ones in page 3 didn’t look too bad
in this regard…) 😃

Not sure how well I can trust my old Samsung monitor either when it comes to the judgements of subtle
color nuances… Anyway keep up what you’re doing! 😃

Harmy's Despecialized Star Wars 1977 - Color Adjustment Project for v2.7 (released)

Hey Towne, if your gonna make a 16:9 cropped version, can you make me a pan and scan version? It’s ideal for my CRT TV and I think most people would agree with me when I say it is the optimal way to watch Star Wars.

Sign me up for one Towne! Star Wars had no black bars in the cinema AFAIK, so I agree it’s completely ridiculous to add them to this project to begin with. I want the original version. I though this project was about the original version but clearly not. Hmpfh!

I really hope everyone loves my last minute change in tastes as far as color timing goes. I think it’s really the way the film was meant to look.

Spectacular! Can you write a script that makes these adjustments automaticly for a whole movie? I would like to run the entire trilogy through it! 😉
