Star Wars Digital HD Release .... April 10th

Apparently my Mac is too old to be able to access iTunes Extras. I guess the technical hurdles are too great for my machine to stream 480p "Legacy content." I heard from someone who did buy that the Legacy content is just the same SD video as the DVDs.

Sh*t..... that means that the deleted scenes are also highly likely to be the SD versions from the DVDs as well. :/

It's like Lucasfilms knows we're just chomping at the bit for HD versions of the deleted scenes so we can make better fanedits of the movies, so they're intentionally screwing with us, lol.

Holy sh*t, that's awesome news :D A slight pity that's only seems to be coming to DVD and not a Blu-Ray release, but at this point, I'll take anything for an official release of the movie.

I could justify the purchase if the deleted scenes were HD, since I wouldn't know whether the mixes match till I go through the multi-step phase cancelation.

Are you waiting to find out, or do you know they're SD?

if, not sure yet.  Really doubt it though, I guess we'll hear soon.  I especially think this since nearly every BD that has special features from previous releases are just ports from the previous DVD's (although I think they usually end up being less compressed as they get sourced from the SD masters).

Has there been still no word yet on if the deleted scenes are HD or SD yet? I'm highly curious about this as well.

There are only two that I've seen so far that I feel are truly "seamless" in the way you describe:

Terminator 3: The Coming Storm by Uncanny Antman
A.I.: Super-Toys Last All Summer Long by JasonN (this one isn't 100% seamless, but it's close, and it dramatically improves the film; the ending is slightly jarring, but it's much, much better than the theatrical version's ending)

See, there you go. You described these two edits as seamless, which got me excited for a moment (The Super-Toys Last All Summer Long one, not the T3 one, no amount of editing would get me to watch that dog of a movie again), but then you mentioned how the ending was jarring. I always here these fantastic reviews for fan edits, and they never live up to the height, and are usually quite of lot worse than anyone at FE would ever care to admit (I get that they deal with edits a lot, so probably have to lower their standards a good deal, and are used to that lack of seamlessness).

Maybe I will check out that A.I. edit, but I have little doubt it will continue to confirm the way I feel about edits, just as War of the Stars did.

I know I'm digging pretty ficken' deep into this grave of a thread, but this post got me a little curious and now I'm kinda wondering what this guy thought of my AI edit, lol. (if he even got a chance to watch it in the end)

JasonN seems to have went into hiding beyond the Dune Sea.

I don't know about hiding beyond the Dune Sea, but I suppose it's close to it, lol.  :P

Long story short, I kinda got out of doing a lot of fanediting work for a while, especially after I had a motherboard and PSU in my workstation go apesh*t and ended up shorting out a few hard drives in addition to themselves (which included several fanedits and the video/audio files for them). Lately, I have been trying to do some fanediting when I have a little free time (including finally, finally finishing my "Mass Effect 3" fanedit series on Youtube one of these days...), but truthfully, I find myself tending to work more on my other hobbies like writing and learning animation these days than on fanediting films.

As for doing a RotJ fanedit, truth told, I gave up on it primarily because when it gets right down do it.... I honestly can not stand "Return of the Jedi", either as a film and as a story, and ultimately trying to fanedit it just ended up giving me a colossal headache (same deal with trying to edit "Transformers 3").

JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works
Time

I realize that it's been... well, ages since I posted anything significant either in this thread or in the fanediting community in general, so here's a basic update on my status and on my works:

I've been rather out of fanediting SW and other films for a while now (a lot of things in real life and other projects to occupy my time, lol), but I'm slowly getting back into the flow of things. The SD versions of my PT edits are indeed currently offline - I am working on HD releases, but that's currently on hold until I receive some software updates in the mail (mainly because I'll need to upconvert the deleted scenes from the DVD releases, since those scenes weren't friggin' included in the Blu-Ray release... thanks George). When I get those software updates (which hopefully will be soon), I'll resume working on the HD versions of my PT edits and my other fanedits.

EDIT: An additional note, but people checking out the first page might have notice that my former video previews from my edits have been removed - Youtube decided early this year that SW clips (even those that were fanedited) are no longer allowed, after striking me with a copywrite notice... :/ so I had to remove anything SW-related, even trailers from my Youtube Channel.

JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works

Yes, sorry for any lack of information on the V3 cuts:

- part of the issue was, in the last few months I had massive hardware issues on my workstation which kept me from doing work for a while (technology can be a fickle b****, especially when it's cause random and constant shutdowns and reboots on your PC... -_- ), but those problems were finally sorted out earlier in the month, so my PC's all good to go.

- the other issue is, well, there's been another Sci-Fi fanedit project that's been taking up a ton (and I do mean a TON) of my time and resources which kept me from working back on Star Wars. That project is this:

A few people have brought this project to my attention with a few questions, so I just wanted to state here that I am in no way affiliated with or working a part on this specific editing project.

As an additional sidenote (and admitedly, entirely personal on my part), I'm just a tad leery about the fact that the EP3 edit for this project is called "The Knight in Black" since it sounds somewhat close to the title of my EP3 fanedit (which was called "The Black Knight Rises").

A fan editor leery at another fan editor for editing his fan edit of a film he did not create.

We need to go deeper.

Actually no, I'm not leery about that aspect - it's the title that he chose for his EP3 edit that I'm a bit leery on since I think it's rather close to my EP3 edit's title that fanedit viewers might get the two mixed up.

2) There is no explanation of how Obi figures out to go to Kamino. None. He takes the dart to the analysis droids, they tell him pretty much nothing, and suddenly he's in the library trying to find Kamino (which of course he names without any previous reference to it).

From the edit detail page:

- "Kamino" (in Aurabesh type) is now seen flashing on the computer display during the Jedi temple analysis scene. We also hear a results tone before the reveal.

I see.  We are required to know how to read Aurabesh in order to follow a major plot point.  And the "results tone" is supposedly meant to clue us in.

This seems like something Lucas would have changed.

Good god almighty, why couldn't he just, oh I don't know..... re-dub the damn droid to say that the dart is from Kamino?

:P

Info: Condition of the 2011 Bluray deleted scenes... Quite rough.

TheoOdo said:

It's a shame the audio is so rough in the sandstorm scene. The images are really iconic, the tone is more in line with the events of Empire, what with Luke's solemn attitude, and it's great to see Han reunited with the Falcon.

Though it seems some of the dialogue has either been removed or was never shot. Han doesn't appear to make his famous "wide-awake nothing" declaration about the experience of being frozen in carbon and Lando doesn't explain himself to Han at all.

I don't remember much about it, but could the radio drama be useful at all in replacing Luke's dialogue?

Haven't listened to the radio drama in quite a while, but it's an interesting idea - I certainly like this scene a heck of a lot more than the goodbye with Luke already in his X-Wing that's currently in the film.

Ah, the one scene from the Prequels that I've been waiting an eternity for.... and I can't f***ing use it because of it's in utter crap quality.... go to hell, Lucas, just go to hell and take your BD set with you. :/

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

By any chance, has anyone taken a look at the "Anakin Kills Shaak Ti" deleted scene from EP3?

Is it in decent quality (I had heard once that that scene was cut pretty late in the game, so you'd think that it wouldn't use an pre-vis effects) or is it in the same crap quality as the rest of the PT deleted scenes? (which I suspect is more likely, given that all of the other deleted scenes from the PT got the shaft...)

The prequel deleted scenes, well i feel sorry for the prequel fans who wanted to see these, because they are a waste of time. The quality looks like they were ripped from youtube when it first started. There are a couple that the quality improves at times, but the majority look like crap.

What's the quality like on the 'lost 20' scene? I just read on star wars aficionado that it's included and wondered if it's good enough to insert into an edit.

It would need a lot of work doing to it before being inserted into any edit. The dialogue is all on set audio and the majority of the scene contains what appears to be pre-vis visual FX.

Much thanks for that info, Bobby, though that is also very very damn disappointing to hear as I was really looking forward to using that scene. :(

On that note..... F*** you once again, Lucas. :/

specially this one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9DzX1E8Siw

Great scene.  Not sure why it was deleted...

It was cut because it was the final sequence of a subplot involving Padme and numerous Senators (the "Delegation of 2,000") trying to get Palpatine to give back more power and authority to the Senate rather than himself.

JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works

parrastaka: Hello and thank you for your interest in my fanedits.

With regards to the DVD versions of my PT edits, the reason the FE.org links no longer work is because the filehosting site which I had used to host my files deleted the majority of my fanedits. :/

I'm currently in the process of reuploading my files to another filehosting service, but some of my edits I'm holding up on reup'ing until I can finish new and improved revised cuts, which includes all three of my PT fanedits. Not sure when they'll be completed (things kinda have got stalled due to the PSU of my workstation dying and getting it replaced, unfortunately...), but I'll definitely post here when they're available online again. ;)

Ok, folks, slight change of plans.....

Newly revises cuts of Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, and The Black Knight Rises will still be coming out, but because of recent revelations that the deleted scenes of the PT that was previously released on DVD is NOT included in the new BD boxset, I will not be releasing these edits in HD (on that note: F*** Lucas....) - however, I will still be looking into integrating several of the new deleted scenes from the BD boxset in my edits (especially the "Lost Twenty" scene from EP2), providing that they are in decent quality to work with.
