It’s the 4K. It’s got a 3840x1610 pixel count.

There was an interview with George Lucas a few years back where he lamented that ‘they’re going to put them back to the way they were’ w/r/t the original trilogy.

There’s never really been a reason; they’ve never claimed that they will or will not release a 4K version of the trilogy. Lucasfilm under Kathleen Kennedy don’t seem to be very interested in new releases of older films, she has said that they are all about the future.

AOTC and ROTS look totally fine to me in terms of picture quality; I mean it’s not like they look like 28 Days Later or something.

I’m not sure it has much to do with Disney or Fox at all. Lucasfilm under Kathleen Kennedy seems very focused on future projects (she has said as much in interviews); there doesn’t seem to be much interest in OT projects from them right now.

Since when Episode I was originally finished, it was done on a per shot basis - “done sort of old style, final a shot, film out a shot, look at a print of that negative and that’s what we would final”. It went through a conventional negative cut. An optical timed IP was generated from that and then then master printing negatives were made from that timed IP. So everything audiences saw in the theater was two generations down from the original. “When the original DVD was released,” Knoll says, "it came from scanning in the timed IP because it was the simplest thing to do.

The guy who capped it didn’t want to rip it using a conventional HD capture card, but rather obtain the broadcast tape off the TV station (somehow). After that didn’t work he tried to extract it off his DVR’s encrypted hard disk, then when that also didn’t work he disappeared.

At this point it’s getting pretty difficult to find good quality TVs above 40 inches that aren’t at 4K res.

People keep saying this but I think “Will there be any more changes to the Special edition versions?” is the question that he was trying to ask. And he got the answer he was looking for. Not every inquiry people make about changes to the films revolves around the unaltered versions.

HDR10 has wider colour space and depth which are definitely not gimmicks imo. I think those store demos just crank up the brightness and saturation because they think that’s what looks good to the layman.

No there’s definitely kids watching the prequels these days, mostly due to Clone Wars, but also because they see Rebels and TFA and want to watch more Star Wars and don’t really care whether they are good or bad films.

Announcing a OOT set with Hayden on the panel isn’t really a big deal since he wasn’t even aware about being inserted into ROTJ until sometime later anyway. Doubt he cares about his little cameo very much.

AOTC was shot open matte at 1920x1080 (not even 2K) and then matted to 1920x820. I don’t know about ROTS.

No one has it sorry. The guy who recorded it was a perfectionist who only wanted to extract it directly off his cable boxes encrypted HDD rather than use something like an HDMI splitter/capture card. Then after failing to rip it he disappeared.

Would it be Disney in charge of restoring Star Wars material or Lucasfilm? If it’s the latter then I’m not sure that what Gluck says would even matter. That, and we don’t even know what question he was answering. Better to just reserve all expectations until April rather than go in optimistic or pessimistic.
