I copied it to a network HDD dock and took a look at it… and I hate to be the first to complain about this amazing piece of work, but it looks like the grain was scrubbed and then fake grain was added.

Pretty sure I know the answer before getting this, but is it possible to strip enough audio tracks and burn a BD25 or is a BD50 necessary for this without re-encoding?

As I mention in the first post, Aladdin had enhancements/reanimation done for an IMAX release that never happened. I THOUGHT there was no digital release of the original master, but now I’m wondering:
So I don’t know what happened to the editor, but today I fixed the error in the uncensored audio track.
I didn’t do a full disc rebuild with it, but if there is interest, let me know.
I do want to ask again if anyone knows if anything else was cut besides a few god damns and one fuck. I don’t recall any nudity in the original version, but it does have an R rating.
Edit: Couldn’t let sleeping dogs lie. I got the best quality web-dl of the current print. Best video, best DD+ audio track, the best quality laserdisc to DVD of the original version, converted the audio tracks to lossless and remixed/rebuilt the original uncensored edition.
No black and white or changes, but thanks to Oswarez for inspiring me to do this. PM if interested.
I’m not sure there is an English dub on Blu-ray until March 12. At the moment only CrunchyRoll streaming has it.

I was getting ready to share this with family and noticed the MySpleen Exclusive version.
Is that version official from PhilFrog or some third party mod of it?
Hash checking it against my older disc, none of the files match, not even the .jpg of the cover art.
Ok… I’m trying to remember what I learned from the fan group back in the 90s. I did find my Viewers Guide (publicity booklet with a lot of details about the series. I should scan and share that.), and a Polaroid photo with a post-a-note signed by Samoset offering me Duncan’s Tequila painting for $50.
Anyway, what I recall is they used different film for the real world and VR. I BELIEVE that real world footage is shot on film at 24p like regular TV was at the time and telecined to 29.97i. VR footage, on the other hand, IIRC was filmed using a different stock (possibly B&W) so they could colorize and manipulate it with the final modified version being in video format. So, although it’s all 29.97i, if you bob the VR footage you’ll find it to be 59.94 unique fields.
The conversion to PAL 25FPS means that there is a lot of blending that affects VR and real world footage differently.
If you are upscaling, I’d recommend going 720p60 since you can’t convert to 24p.
VR5 was released commercially on VHS in the U.S… (Although some music was changed to save money.) I have my old VHS tapes from back then, but most importantly there are is pretty good TV rip available. I believe it is Russian. There is also a movie version of the first two episodes together that includes some deleted footage.
The only problem is it needs labor intensive conversion to NTSC (which has been on my to-do list for years since I love this series).
In and out of VR scenes changed between 24p telecined to 29.97i and native 29.97i footage.
As a result the PAL conversion needs different restorations for different scenes.
I did have the graphic novel, and maybe it was in some other movie, but I remember him tying his arm to the periscope with his whip, and waking up the next morning and coughing/choking on some water as he woke.
This has me crazy that it doesn’t exist.

Tonight I noticed there are two different restorations of Who Framed Roger Rabbit on 'spleen.
One from a 4k master and one from the standard Bluray.
Even reading the details, I have no idea which is better. I see mention there are color timing differences, but of course restoring the censored bits takes talent.
Anyone know which is better, the pluses or minuses?
Blu-ray.com’s review actually mentions some technical flaws in the original Snow White animation being present untouched. Maybe they missed some things, but it’s not like they’re adding dewbacks. Things that are really technical flaws aren’t intentional by anyone who worked on the film.
Their ‘restored’ Darby O’Gill BD was garbage. The audio track on that was 1.0 mono and lossy at half the bitrate of the DVD (which to be fair was 2.0 mono).
Am I correct that Snow White has a 1080p Blu-ray sourced from the same remaster as the 4k UHD?
Oh, yeah. I love watching deleted scenes. I thought you wanted all of that put into the movies.

Not at all. Some of those scenes were alternate takes that weren’t consistent with the source. Some were just test images that were rejected by the director before the effects were even finished. Heck, some of the scenes I haven’t even heard they ever filmed.
I’m nearly a year late responding to this, but never in my time as a casual Harry Potter fan have I heard this claim regarding the unreleased footage. I’m not trying to argue with you, Doc, but I believe the scenes I mentioned last year exist somewhere in the WBD vaults. I could be wrong, but who knows? 😁
Movies aren’t made by the original author writing the script, handing it to the director who films it as written and the actors recite the dialog word for word.
There are always alternate takes, changes in dialog, ad libbing, multiple revisions to scripts, etc. Hours and hours are filmed for any movie, but all the footage isn’t intended to be used for one reason or another. As such, they don’t necessarily spend money on vfx for that footage.
Heck, it’s one of the reason some movies are on hold right now with the writers strike; changes in dialog while filming is considered writing in most cases.
I’m not saying the footage doesn’t exist (it probably does) or has been destroyed. I’m saying it doesn’t necessarily belong in the movies.

Like I said, I recall it being the white 50 pack spindle from Japan (which I believe was 4x), but times change.

Anyone else excited for Snow White in 4k? After the Cinderella release i am looking forward to it. Its coming in October, and is reportedly a brand new scan off the original negative.
TheDigitalBits had a screenshot comparison, but always consider, they can ‘new scan’ all they want, it’s what they do to it afterwards that can be anything.
I do plan on doing more comparisons when I have time, but the new UHD release does seem to finally be the best version of the movie available.
I don’t think it was ever broadcast in true 16x9. My source was a letterboxed widescreen from Canada.
I’m told it aired late one night in the U.S., but I never even knew that until long after the fact. So I have no idea how Syfy broadcasted it. Maybe they cropped it.
