Oh yeah, it was one post ages ago!  Lol.

You've now edited that to "Oh yeah it was one post before yours!"

I don't know what either thing means. And I made far more than one post.

Sorry to keep this going.  But DV, you've GOT to calm down a bit.  I was on your side on that one.  Read the posts again.  You replied to shanerjedi that you did all those mock-ups.  Then Darth Solo posted, immediately after yours, asking what you had contributed.  I thought it was funny seeing him asking what you had contributed, when you just answered that question the post before.

Having said that, I have no memory of posting "it was one post ages ago."  I remember posting "it was one post ago," then I edited it because it was technically two posts ago, assuming you also counted my post.  It was confusing, so I changed it to make it more clear.  Did you edit my post in that quote of me?

Either way, let it go.  I was just having a bit of fun at Darth Solo's expense.

LOL I really did misunderstand that totally. Not to worry. I said I'll calm it down, and I appreciate the response. This can only work if everyone involved calms down though.

Seriously guys, can we just drop it?  Please?  Just Ignore one another and be done with it.  Even if people were suggesting things, they'd be lost in the middle of this banter.

Please.

Honestly, I will drop it. I'm done with it. But this little witchhunt one or two members are having also needs to stop. We all need to get back to the relevant issues here. I promise you and those that messaged me that I will. But others have to behave too.

When have you ever contributed???? Besides being sarcastic????

Pathetic and embarrassing.

I've contributed a damn sight more than you in the few months I've been here than you have in your time.

You clearly are not man enough to leave this alone, are you. I have nothing else to say to you. I've had some constructive advice from people I respect, and I'll try my best. But I'm sure they won't mind me telling you to go and fuck yourself.

No dont get onside 005. Dont feed trolls (Bad bad times there)!

If you're actually referring to me, you need to think again. I'm not going anywhere. And seeing as you want to get constructive, why don't you show us what you've got.

While other forum members might avoid public fights, I know who doesn't have a problem with me being here. So get of your moral high horse, Darth Solo, because your sanctimony doesn't wash.

Now, as Shanerjedi already said, if you want to get things back to constructive ways, stop bringing it up and gloating. Can you do that? I know I can, so let's be constructive and creative, as we have been before.

So Venal, it was you who did the mockups then? I remember them. Was that to replace and existing shot or extend out a scene with a new one?

Indeed it was me, I did a fair few of them. Most of them have disappeared but I can PM them to you if you need a reminder of anything. Some of them were alternates/redos and others were more for scene extension, or actual extension of an existing shot (like Lucas did with the THX 1138 city interiors, very well for the most part).

Lets go off topic yet AGAIN. Take the bad languge from Saving Private Ryan, then the normandy landings are in the same catogory as Toy Story for my kids to go and see then?

Educational yes, but i got concerned when little Darth wanted to bomb the kids in the playground after that though.

Who's going off topic? We all seem to be talking about the same thing.

Whilst still on the subject of the original trilogy. I have never understood how the OTs got a PG rating in the first place. What with all the killing and the odd decapitation here and there. All it needed was angels OB1 dialogue to totally mistify me with the cert. given.

Here in the UK the original movies got a U (Universal) rating, meaning they could be see by anyone of any age. But really, why not? There's really not anything very strong in it. By the way, decapitation? I seem to have brain fog, I don't remember any loss of headage.

Those are just some slash marks, that guy is nearly being vertically bissected. It's a lot more violent.

Like the poor geonosian that cutted in half by anakin? or obi cuted violenty the legs of the alien spider? or or or..

-Angel

If anything I'd love to see that scene made as violent as possible. This is Anakin/Vader at his most violent moment, untempered by emotions for Padme and Obi Wan, just hatred of the Geonosians and others. Nute Gunray's death could have been even more horrific for my eye, given how much trouble he'd caused Padme for the previous two movies.

Come on Angel, do your worst with him ;-)

Are these the cardinal rules you speak of?:

But to keep this somewhat on topic, I was wondering if there is the possibility to add lighting effects be it on Dagobah, Bespin, Endor, the Emperor's private palace and the like to subtract from the "set look (uniform lighting from background to foreground)".  Here are some examples:

BTW, is there something wrong with the forum message creator?  I used to be able to resize pictures so you wouldn't have huge pics taking up half the page, but now every time I resize the pic and submit the message, the pic is resized BACK to its original size.  Hmmph...

Yeah there do seem to be formatting problems, not sure what's up with it.

Cardinal rulers, I like! :-)

Who are you, the hall monitor?

Well, we don't have hall monitors in the UK, so I guess I'm off the hook. Phew. For a minute there I almost considered doing as I was told.

I'm pleased you like the icon. It's a pretty thing, ain't it.

Yeah, for a criminally underused bad ass, it is.

LOL ain't that the truth! Not sure why that pic looks so evil, but I like it.

I met Ray Park many moons ago, my sister's ex Simon used to train with him. I trained with Simon for a while, too. He was 4th dan ninjistu and fucking hell he was scarily good. Once he made me and the other four guys training get up at 3am and meet him in the woods, barefoot, to fight. What a fun night that was. And when I say fun, I mean horrendously scary.

ESB is such a great looking fantasy film.

 Great direction

Why didn't Irvin Kershner direct ROTJ?  One can only wonder what it would of been.

Indeed. Kirschner might have been busy, I forget now. I know Lucas asked him if he wanted to direct Attack of the Clones, but Kirsch declined because of his age. Some people say that's a myth that Lucas asked him, but I was told from a pretty close source that it's true. If only again!

 Don't stop there.

Great looking (well shot)

Great script

Great direction

Great performances - even Mark Hamill

Great everything.

My favourite single shot in all of the six movies is in Empire. The slide right ending on Luke framed perfectly in the Wampa cave. Stunning.

True 005.  I'd still take him out of the SB battle, unless someone can make the battle unbelievable.

What makes something unbelievable is the difference from ordinary.

So these movies build towards bigger moments. That's why the climax is in the third act, not the first 30 mins.

I think that one's even above cardinal rules.

Yeah, I don't think Hollywood invented that. I think it was the Greeks. :)

Cardinal rules, not carnal rules!

(In that case it would be about 15 minutes.)

Haha! Ah geez. You know what I meant by Greeks. Storytelling! :p

Yeah I did, but I couldn't resist. :-)

You know, we sing the praises of of explorers and scientists and all the great minds in our history, but no-one ever mentions the guy who discovered that the conclusion of a story should go at the end. I mean, the guy deserves some recognition, no?

I know it doesn't apply in this situation. Star Wars is very classical 3-act based. I was just saying that I don't like the idea that it's "breaking the cardinal rule of filmmaking" to get away from the plot. I think someone who doesn't know a lot about film like Ghost could get the wrong idea from that statement.

Well, the intention was to point out what the conventions are. If Ghost wants to get into anything film related, he needs to know the rules before he tries to break them. The vast majority of films use the same structure. It's a fact. Yes, film is much more than that, and I totally encourage people to learn as much as they can about the medium and its history, but if someone wants a realistic chance of knowing what they're doing, they need to know the basics.

And getting away from the plot, regardless of structure, is breaking the cardinal rule of filmmaking. If you're trying to tell a story, then you stick to telling the story. It's that simple, regardless of the sort of movie you're making. Sorry, but it IS that simple.

Yes, but still, continuity narrative filmmaking, not filmmaking in general. I'm sorry,  guess my argument is irrelevant to Star Wars, I guess I just don't deal in absolutes :p

No, but apparently you do a good line in irrelevance.  :-p

We were talking about Star Wars, after all. I'm all ears if anyone wants to talk about film more broadly.

This isn't art-house cinema. This isn't Dinner with Andre. This is traditional narrative film making. So Venal and Bingo are correct in pointing out the importance of set-up,conflict, and resolution.

You said it. This is Dinner with Padme. (With resource-consuming CG fruit, because that's obviously a much better way to shoot a scene than just giving her a goddamn pear!)

Well, if you really want to kill off most of your brain cells, do a forum search for 'em.  Or just go through some of the older "Off Topic" threads.  The hot.like.fire thread is especially mind-numbing.

I might just do that. I came in to work today expecting to be laden with ten more projects to do and we haven't received them yet, so I'm twiddling my proverbials.
