This surprised me when I read it just a few minutes ago, but it's actually a welcome surprise for all of us, I think (except, I'm sorry Jimbo, but I don't think you'll like it ). TFN posted a link to an article in Ireland Online, where Mark Hamill completely bashes George Lucas AND the Prequels.

Hamill: Lucas ruined my career

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill has attacked the sci-fi franchise's mastermind George Lucas for ignoring him, describing the director as a "sad" man who "just doesn't get it".

Hamill gained worldwide fame as Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy - released between 1977 and 1983.

But while Hamill's co-stars, including Harrison Ford, went on to become superstars, he appeared in a string of flops.

And the 52-year-old blames his withering career on Lucas' decision not to cast him in any of his other movies.

Hamill said: "George is very unemotional. He is not someone who says, 'Hey, let's get together and have a barbecue to salute the old talent'. I never hear from any of them.

"I loved all those people, but have not seen them in years. George could have made it happen, if he wanted to."

And Hamill isn't a fan of Lucas' current Star Wars prequels either - of which The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones have so far been released.

He blasts: "My message to him is, 'Get out more, pal. You are surrounded by an army of sycophants who say that, even when you blow your nose, you are brilliant.'

"How sad is that? It's not as if he's making Ten Commandments, Part Two.

"Everything in his new Star Wars movies seems so important now. Ours were much funnier. I am not speaking out of school here, but he just doesn't get it. He thinks some of this new stuff is funny."

Either Mark Hamill had a shit load of Guinesses at a pub and got pissed, or this is false. From what I've heard from Hamill, the second one is true.

I know...it didn't sound like him at all. I guess I posted it in the hopes that it is true, because it would be so great to have someone like Hamill feel the same way about Lucas that many of us do.

This has to be fake. The man who played Luke Skywalker who was one of my favorite movie characters of all time can't possibly be whinny bitch. Please tell me this is fake.

I'd love for it to be true, but I don't know what to think. I don't feel he's being a whiny bitch at all...he's just not defending Lucas. If this ends up being a true interview, and not taken out of context, I think we would find a useful ally in our campaign against the Lucas empire, what do you say, Luke?

No if this is real then he is being a total bitch. If his carreer didn't take off its not Lucases falt. Sorry this is fake because I can't believe that one of my favorite actors could be such a complete asshole.

Sounds like Hamill to me. I remember him being on Politically Incorrect once, and pretty much saying that Lucas felt that actors got in the way of his creative process.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.

The funny thing is that I've heard people complaining about this because they feel Hamill is saying that Lucas ruined his career, as the headline said. But his quotes imply nothing of the sort. He's simply taking a stand against Lucas.

Actors getting in the way of his creative process.... I mean, I'm glad Lucas made the movies and everything, but if that's how the man feels about actors, maybe he should've found another creative channel.

I also belive this is fake. Mark Hamill wouldn't say out loud those things, even though we all agree with him. It's unprofessional. I mean, you don't say bad things of an old boss of yours to your new boss, he'll think "wait a minute, if he's such a backstabber, he'll mouth off bad things about me too". Get it?

I read that as well. It's not exactly fake, as far as I can gather, just taken completely out of context from an old interview.

Great news. Apparently theforce.net has confirmed this rediculous interview is a fraud. Mark has great respect for Lucas and for Star Wars. He does say he likes the originals over the new ones but thats not that bad. Go Mark. Fuck whoever made up the fucking ridulous lie.

Because they hate what he's doing with the movies now. Personally, I don't hate Lucas at all, in fact based on the interviews of him I've seen he looks like a pretty nice guy. But I just hate what he's doing with the movies ("improving" the originals and refusing to make the original versions available).

And I have to disagree about Lucas being better now than in 1977. I like the prequels, but I just consider them pretty good and not awesome. The only Star Wars movie that Lucas directed that I think of as awesome is the original Star Wars from 1977, when Lucas was at his best (remember, he didn't direct Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi).

Mark Hamil doesn't hate Lucas. Lucas created Star Wars. Why do I respect Lucas? because I love Star Wars. If it wasn't for Lucas there would be no Star Wars. He is a very creative individual. He is a man of great intellegence. He is a great filmmaker. Star Wars is such a great saga. Lucas and all those responsible for the Star Wars saga are great.
