This short scene of the explosion on the Death Star and the Stormtroopers hitting the walls, was very problematic, and took a few hours to fix:

There were many other scenes with noise, dirt, and scratches, Even the explosions had many areas to clean. Reel 6 was the most difficult and time consuming one to clean up, even without replacement shots.

I have to say this last sample looks really great. The color, depth and detail are all there. To me at least, this sample looks much better than the one for the first reel (apart from the cleanup, which is terrific for all the samples you've shared).

Reel 3 is nearing completion, has had stabilization, cropping, and flicker removal done. Also, the replacement shots are finished.

It will be the first Reel for getting color correction done.

I tried to experiment a bit with color correcting the first reel of the sample -1 shared a few weeks ago. I used a single frame as reference, namely:

 You did a good job matching the source, but what exactly is the source? I tried looking for an article and they don't even have any dated June 2015. Hmm.

Offhand, it looks to me a bit like what Harmy did for DeSp 2.5. Corrected to match scans from a print, but the scan it's being matched to might not necessarily be corrected. And like his correction, it's a bit on the green and desaturated side. And also like his, they look pretty good. The deleted sandcrawler shot looks a bit funky, though. As always with my comments on color, this is just biased opinion and I could never claim to know how things are 'supposed' to look.

This can also be found in the new color matching thread I created, but I guess it is also relevant here. I wrote a script for matching the colors between two sources very accurately. Since the colors of the video samples for the LPP preservation still need to be adjusted, I thought I would do a few tests. I have matched frame 8228 for the LPP preservation to four sources: GOUT, GKar, 35 mm scan from a different print, and Harmy's Despecialized Edition.

The colors match very well. However, the color corrected LPP framelooks faded. There is not much detail. In some ways the LPP scan is comparable to the GOUT and GKar. This can have three reasons I think:

1) The diference in quality is due to compression

2) The quality of the scan is not that good

3) The print itself is in pretty poor shape

Personally I think the compression is the culprit, but perhaps -1 could provide the uncompressed frame 8228 to be sure...

Any status updates? Would love to see a reel 3 preview, since I don't think we've had any footage from that one IIRC.
