Magister Pontifex MaximusThe Guardian says :
The 1987 followup, Evil Dead II, was effectively itself a remake and added a healthy dose of Three Stooges-style slapstick to the mix, resulting in one of the first horror-comedy films.
Yes it was essentially a comedy remake but it certainly wasn't anywhere near one of the first horror-comedy films.

Better a bad bomb than a bombadMeh. "The Evil Dead" is what it was. I don't think a big budget remake can possibly capture that energy. Not excited.

Ointment FlyI just watched The Evil Dead a few weeks back. Other than Campbell's performance, I was pretty underwhelmed.

Magister Pontifex MaximusI prefer Crimewave myself.
Evil Dead 2 was a hoot to watch in the cinema (where I seemed to be the only one laughing like a hyena on Nitrous Oxide).
It might work but I'd prefer it if he tried to do something similar without being a remake or a sequel than cashing in on the brand name (though I see the financial sense in it).

"friggin midgit devil teddy bear"I've long wished they would make an Evil Dead 4. Continuing from the "I slept too long" ending of Army of Darkness, an older Bruce Campbell could fit the continuity (in that ending it showed his hair grow over that period, so it could make since that he slowly aged during those several hundred years he slept).
Unfortunately... I don't think that will happen. However, to me Raimi's idea of doing a remake is pretty cool. Keep in mind, the original was a really low budget film. A remake would be taking the idea and turning it into a modern full budget horror flick. With the droves of really, really, really lame horror films that are pumped out of studios every year, I really don't see any negative aspect to a remake of The Evil Dead.

aka PancakesThe Evil Dead is okay, but not amazing. It's more for hardcore Bruce Campbell or horror fans than anything.
Evil Dead II, however, is absolutely fucking hilarious, amazing, and one of my favorite films of all time.
Army of Darkness is just campy fun all around.
So, which style are they going to go with for the remake/reboot/whatthefuckever?

Its just going to be just a horror movie, without ash in the movie and nothing funny.

Jedi KnightWell they already crapped all over the franchise with bad comics and video games so a fourth movie cannot do worse, or could It ?
I mean its not like he would be the only one doing remakes, how many night of the living dead remakes or sequels do we really need.
The zombie thing has been way over done. I mean is there any new idea or twist they can do with the genre ?
The craze of the last decade has all but killed the genre, even though the studios figure there is still money to be made. I mean its like how many freddy or jason movies do you really need.
Next thing they will remake Poltergeist but with CGI and a bad director.

"friggin midgit devil teddy bear"CSA, I don't have a link I am afraid. But I remember reading a Raimi interview a few years back where he talks about wanting to produce a straight up horror remake of The Evil Dead. His reasoning was something along the lines of he really liked the idea of the original film, the remote cabin, cursed book, and the deadites and thought it would be great to go back and remake it as a mainstream horror film.
I actually agree. Yes, the cult classic The Evil Dead is its own film, so I can see it being hard for some to imagine a remake without the camp and without Ash. But I think if you set all that aside, there is the basis of a pretty cool little horror movie there. No, nothing spectacular or completely original, but a fun little scare fest.
I am surprised how much flak this idea gets from fans. Seems like every message board I have every seen concerning this has been a bunch of eye rolling and complaining. If you put yourself in Raimi's shoes, you have this early work of yours that you really put a lot into, it was a really low budget, low tech thing. Now you've become a pretty big, well known, main stream director. Is it not unreasonable to want to revisit this early project of yours and redo it big budget and mainstream, the way you only dreamed to have been able to do it in the first place? I think it is pretty lame how so few fans seem to be getting behind him and supporting him.
George Lucas can make three worthless, superfluous films, continuing his classic series, and the fans only love him more for it. He can go back and alter and change the old films and suppress the originals and his legions of fans come to his defense over it and back up every silly decision he makes. But a guy like Raimi comes along and simply wants to reuse the idea from his original low budget film he made when he was a nothing no-name director, remade big budget for a modern audience, and his fans all cry foul. Wish a few of his fans could be a bit more like Lucas' TFN crowd...

Let's just hope they don't bring Kane or any thing else from those crappy sequels into it.
